CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT ONE YEAR PERFORMANCE PIECE'S EXHIBITION, NY 2010-2011

I am Anita Sto, a professional conceptual artist, who works with different media from drawings to photographs, paintings and mostly stop-motion videos. Since November 11th 2010, I have been engaged in a one-year performance piece, which mainly consists in not looking at my-self in any kind of mirrors and/or reflecting surfaces, avoiding at all making eye contact with my-self. I undertook a research of identification and detection of the boundaries that define the Self, focusing on what is untouchable and invisible than what is not.

Along the 365 days, I am documenting all the impressions relative to that experience. Through a diary based on brain storming process, I’m collecting selected fragments of my personal considerations, painting metaphors and creating pictures.

The intention of the 365 days performance is to find how and where the Self acts, besides the objectiveness of the visual images but through feelings, impressions and considerations. The final goal is to share my personal experience and make the audience capture each one’s Self.This work is about receiving and do not keeping, as the mirror does.

The performance will have term on November 11th 2011, at 11:00 AM.

Based on an idea of Anita Sto, curated by Whitney Hunter, with the support of The Invisible Dog Art Center, the culminating performance piece will be shown in a New York gallery, with a target exhibition run starting December 2011.

Your donation will support the performance piece and will fund most of the expenses to prepare the exhibition (covering a portion of the gallery rent, video editing, picture printing, installation materials costs and payment of professional fees for all the individuals that have contributed to the performance).

Mi chiamo Anita Sto, sono un' artista concettuale professionista, che lavora con diversi media dal disegno alla fotografia, pittura e soprattutto stop-motion video. Dall' 11 Novembre 2010, ho iniziato a lavorare ad una performance della durata di un anno, che consiste principalmente nel non guardare me stessa in ogni tipo di specchio e/o superficie riflettente, evitando di guardarmi negli occhi. Ho intrapreso una ricerca di identificazione e rilevamento dei confini che definiscono il Sé, concentrandomi su ciò che è intoccabile e invisibile piuttosto su ciò che non lo è. 

Lungo i 365 giorni, sto documentando tutte le impressioni riguardo questa esperienza. Attraverso un diario basato sul processo brain storming, sto raccogliendo frammenti selezionati di mie considerazioni personali.

L'intenzione della performance è quella di trovare come e dove gli il Sé abbia forma e rappresentazione, andando oltre l'oggettività delle immagini visive e  piuttosto esplorando attraverso le sensazioni, le impressioni e le considerazioni. L'obiettivo finale è quello di condividere la mia esperienza personale e far catturare il Se' al mio pubblico. 

Questo lavoro si fonda sul concetto di ricevere e non trattenere, proprio come lo specchio fa. 

La performance avrà termine il giorno 11 novembre 2011, alle 11:00 di mattina.

 

Sulla base di un'idea di Anita Sto, a cura di Whitney Hunter, con il supporto del Centro di Arte Invisibile Dog, il lavoro di un anno sarà in mostra in una galleria di New York, da realizzarsi attorno gli inizi di dicembre 2011.

La tua donazione sosterrà parte della perfomance  e finanzierà la maggior parte delle spese per la preparazione della mostra (che copre l'affitto dello spazio espositivo, editing video, stampe di fotografie, materiali e costi di installazione dell'allestimento ed il pagamento del lavoro di tutte le persone che hanno contribuito alla mia performance).
