Harmony Grove is an album of spiritual songs to be sung together. Music builds community, and draws us closer to God! Let's sing!
My goal with this project, Harmony Grove, is to record and release a collection of original songs that help us to connect to God and each other.
These songs are written to help us navigate certain seasons and times in our lives, and include themes of hope, never-failing love, renewal, justice, comfort, peace and finding our way on a journey.
Many of these songs have been "road tested" with my congregation at The Bridge at Woodmont Christian Church, as well as other groups in retreat settings around the country and in Europe. It's exciting to hear and see these songs uniting people, linking our diverse stories through common musical experiences.
Music can truly be a transformative experience. Just think of the times you have felt the magic of singing together:
A road trip with a few folks bellowing out some favorite tunes; windows down, the wind in your hair.
- A concert where the roof feels ready to lift off the rafters as the hall fills with the sound of thousands of voices singing one single melody.
- A gathering at an early summer campfire, late in the evening. Even the crickets seem caught up in the harmony.
For me, some of the most powerful singing of which I've been a part has been in churches. Big churches, little churches, old, traditional churches and edgy, hip churches -- I can't help but be caught up in the songs.
The songs of Harmony Grove stem, in part, from conversations I have had with many kinds of people who I've met in my travels. They have asked me for new music that reflects their theology, their hopes, their questions and their dreams. Some of these songs also serve as a way to voice my own convictions, as well as my doubts.
Most of the times in my life I have felt closest to God, I have been singing with other people. Perhaps that is true for you, too.
The relationship of people to this project is what will give it that special spark; that community-generated energy that it needs for these songs to arrive to be sung in congregations, college dorm rooms, around campfires and on car stereos.
Together, we can create music that brings hope and healing into the world!
Please note: If the funding goal is not reached by the deadline, ALL of the pledges will be refunded, and Harmony Grove will simply not happen. Please help us get the word out by sharing with friends!
Whoever you are, and whatever you believe, thank you for taking the time to check out this adventure. I hope you'll choose to be part of it!
Because I'm just crazy enough to think it'll work. I know that these songs offer hope, healing, welcome and revitalization to our Church as a whole, and want to be able to have them recorded well so I can share them!
I have been trying not to be all tacky and drop a bunch of names, but let me just say I'm beyond excited to work with this dream team of Sam Hawksley and David Leonard. I got to work with them together on "Little Miracles," and felt so lucky and just delighted by the experience, that we all decided to get together again! Here's just a teeny piece of their combined resume...
Can you see why I'm so psyched?
Sam Hawksley: Quintuple threat as a producer/arranger, writer, singer, songwriter and incredible guitar player, Sam Hawksley is well known around the world. I personally am a huge fan of his music, and am so honored that he also plays guitar with us at The Bridge when he's available in addition to playing for/with Olivia Newton John, Keith Urban and loads of other folks... He's also my very favorite cowriter these days!
David Leonard: Holy cow, David's amazing! A multiple Grammy Winner, David has worked on a literally thousands of records including Indigo Girls, Bangles, k.d. Lang, John Mellencamp, Prince, Chaka Khan, Caedmon's Call, Toto, Steven Curtis Chapman, Barenaked Ladies, Audio Adrenaline and tons more… Known especially for his mixing and arrangements. I used to geek out over his records all through highschool and college, pouring over liner notes, and seeking out articles about him in engineering rags. It's truly a dream come true for me to work with him.
I'd love for any and all help you can spare!
The things that I could really use help with include:
1. sharing a link to the campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Myspace etc.
2. sending out a little email to your friends and family explaining why you believe that Harmony Grove should receive their support. I'm counting on this campaign to go viral, and need your help to do that!
3. Please send me encouraging thoughts, prayers, emails or notes. I feel pretty vulnerable about this whole process. I've never been one to ask for money from my community, so this is pretty awkward for me. I'd really appreciate your care and love in this particular area.
If you would like to book me through Kickstarter, the total honorarium for my work with your group will be designated to recording Harmony Grove.
As you may know, Kickstarter's fundraising is an "all or nothing" model, meaning that on January 27th, if the fundraising goal is not met, all pledges are refunded to the backers. Should the fundraising goal not be met, you will have the option of canceling your booking, or keeping it and reworking the honorarium with Andra's booking and management, Kristin Russell. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The honorariums on Kickstarter include many "thank you gifts," depending on the package chosen. Some of the offerings include video access to the making of the record, phone consultations for your own artistic endeavors, cd box sets, karaoke tracks, lead sheets, rights for reprinting and projecting my songs and more! Because of these giving incentives, booking through Kickstarter may be slightly higher than the regular workshop or concert rate, but you will receive additional products, services, and the opportunity to invest in "Harmony Grove's" arrival to people who are hungry for this kind of music!
Nothing. Harmony Grove must be fully funded or no money changes hands. That protects the backers who have invested into getting a project that matches the allotted budget.
Absolutely! Every little bit helps!
