The D. Fleiss East West Artist’s Foundation has invited me to embark on a
journey without borders and participate in an international artist residency
which includes The Symposia of Contemporary Art in Mallnitz, Austria
this October. From the healing waters of Austria to the particle collisions
at CERN, this artist residency presents the opportunity to travel into new
territory and create boundary-bending work that will intersect art, spirit, and
science.
As the
only artist invited to represent the USA,
I hope to attend this multicultural residency that will culminate in an
international exhibition at the BIOS National Park Museum,
Mallnitz. After the exhibition the artwork will be incorporated into the
permanent collections of both the DFEW Foundation and The Hotel Kärntener
(which means “House for Artists”). The DFEW foundation’s permanent collection is exhibited at galleries and museums around the world.
After almost a year of relative confinement because of a broken leg accident, I
can’t tell you how excited I am about the possibility of going to this artist
residency and additionally fulfilling an important career dream to visit CERN
which is just a train ride away in Geneva, Switzerland.
Currently, I am collecting information and reference images for a new body of work about the power of water as a transcendent and healing force; specifically, living/structured/clustered water. I am passionate about learning how the universe works and am interested in the research being done at CERN with the Large Hadron Collider; specifically, the Higgs Boson particle and images of particle collisions.
It is
quite the synchronistic event to have all of
my interests line up with this residency! I believe that what I will see and
learn on this trip will be pivotal to my growth as an artist.
My goals for this residency project:
* To research and produce imagery that will visually reflect and respond to my
experiences in this region, specifically the healing waters which Austria is known
for.
* To do research at CERN for future work inspired by particle/quantum physics,
particle collisions, and the Higgs Boson.
* To participate in an exhibition at will be
held at the BIOS National Park Museum, Mallnitz.
* To
have my work incorporated into the DFEW foundation’s permanent collection which
will be shown at galleries and museums around the world and additionally in the
Hotel Kartener’s permanent collection.
* To network internationally.
* To participate and present at the Symposium of Contemporary Art.
The biggest challenge ahead of me is to fundraise quickly to pay for my travel costs. Once I’m at the residency my expenses will be covered by the Foundation and my art donations.
What exactly will the money be used for?
The funds which total $4,500 will go specifically toward.
* Travel expenses which include; air fares, train fares, and local travel
* Accommodations while at CERN
* Shipping of materials
My
deadline to raise my travel cost goal of $4,500 is September 1st.
An international residency is a huge undertaking, and comes with a substantial
price tag. It would not be possible without your generous support. By becoming
an art patron and making a contribution, you will receive works of art based on
your pledge level. These pieces will be created exclusively for you as a token

In apprecation you will receive an original 5”x 7” mixed media painting on paper inspired by the landscape of the Alps but with a signature twist! To create each piece I will be using a xerox transfer process, paint, and colored pencil on Stonehenge heavy weight paper. Works will be predominantly black and white with a flourish of color.
