Be a part of my latest CD, “Noneto Ibérico”. This is my most ambitious and exciting album to date. It’s an exciting exploration on how the worlds of Flamenco and Jazz come together. The album is almost finished, but it just needs the final push! By pledging to this project, you’re supporting music that is independently created, and you become part of it! The CD is recorded, mixed and mastered. Funding will be used for pressing the discs, publicity, graphic design and video production. The CD is going to be published by BJUrecords, which is an artist cooperative record label that does not provide funding for the project.
This is my fourth CD as a leader and the follow up to a much-lauded recording, Puzzles. This music was premiered in October, 2009, and it’s a nine-movement piece performed by nine musicians, blending the traditional song forms of Spanish Flamenco music with the contemporary improvised music idiom, creating a unique and groundbreaking genre that goes a step beyond previous blends of flamenco and jazz. The date release for Noneto Ibérico is set for February 15, 2011. The music was composed after a commission from Chamber Music America.
The CD features a stellar line up including some of the most outstanding jazz musicians on the New York scene: Avishai Cohen on trumpet, Loren Stillman on saxophones, Alan Ferber on trombone, Brad Shepik on guitar, Dan Tepfer on piano and Mark Ferber on drums, with the special collaboration of two of the most exceptional musicians in Spain that are renowned for blending jazz with Flamenco, Perico Sambeat on saxophone and Marc Miralta on percussion. Also featuring these very special guests: Israel Suárez "Piraña" Tomás Moreno "Tomasito", and Blas Córdoba “Kejío” on flamenco handclaps and "Jaleos".

I WILL COOK DINNER for 4. I am a very good cook, so I will prepare you a delicious dinner at a location of your choice in NYC. The menu will consist on Spanish delicacies such as Tortilla, Paella, Pa Amb Tomaquet. All these recipes are passed orally through generations in my family. I will provide all the ingredients (the finest high quality, organic and locally grown foods you can taste in NYC) and I'll bring all the cooking utensils. A bassist with a solid reputation, an award-winning composer and bandleader, and a devoted world-class educator; Barcelona-born Alexis Cuadrado has become one of the most sought-after musicians in the New York jazz scene.
In 2008 he was awarded a Chamber Music America “New Works” grant that led to the creation of his new epic recording, Noneto Ibérico, successfully premiered in October of 2009 to critical acclaim, and featured on WNYC's "Soundcheck” with host John Schaefer. It will be released on CD in February of 2011. Cuadrado has three other CDs as a leader: Puzzles (Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records, 2008), Visual (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2004) and Metro (FSNT, 2001), which include original compositions and have received enthusiastic reactions from critics and fans alike.
He has excellent credits as a sideman, with over 20 recording appearances and performances with such greats as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bruce Barth, Ben Monder, Perico Sambeat, Mark Turner, Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo, Ben Waltzer/Bill McHenry Quartet, Steve Wilson, or Seamus Blake amongst many others. He currently keeps busy freelancing with different bands in New York, the US and Europe.
Cuadrado graduated in Jazz Performance and Composition from the Taller De Músics in Barcelona (1993) he went on to study with the legendary concert bass master François Rabbath in Paris (1995-98). In 2001 he got a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance and Composition (graduating with honors) at the Aaron Copland School Of Music-Queens College (NY). He is a current faculty member at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC, and teaches worldwide as a guest lecturer.
He is a founder of the Brooklyn Jazz Underground, a 10 bandleader/composer collective that strives to promote originality and create awareness of innovative jazz artists in Brooklyn, and a co-owner of the record label Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records.
