ALATHEA opens the door to invite you into the making of the Double-Disc not just for Children CD
WELCOME to our first Alathea Kickstarter campaign!
For many of you, helping us with our CD projects and recordings is nothing new - you have been pre-ordering our CDs for years, paying for your CDs long before the CDs are a reality and often waiting years to see (or hear) the fruits of your investment. This makes for quite a long process, often leaving you asking: "When is that new Alathea CD going to be finished?"
Kickstarter, we think, is a perfect way to speed things up and answer the question. Practically speaking, instead of raising the budget over a year or two, we have 30 days to meet our entire recording budget goal, which is a bit of pressure for us. But the good news for you is that you won’t hear us pleading for your help for months on end. And the good news for us is that, should we reach our goal, we will be able to complete the project quickly and efficiently, without excessive and prolonged worry which is more good news for us, and which turns out to be more good news for you, in that you won’t be waiting another year to get the new music you've already paid for.
This new upcoming Alathea project is a Double-Disc Children’s CD - one CD of lullabies and one CD of happy, fun songs. You see, our little communal life of living 48 steps apart has been expanding, giving us heaps of inspiration - husbands, toddling Samuel, dogs and chickens, gardens growing, dinners shared... and come January, a new baby... Yes, I'm so excited to tell you that Mandee and Wes are expecting a baby!! (who I like to refer to as Samuel's soon-to-be best friend...)
We realize that our families may not look just like yours - you may have eight children or no children, but this CD is meant for you. One of the things that we've come to expect from Mandee’s songwriting is that she writes from her rock by the creek or her afternoon hike or her dinner table conversation or now from her nursery, from the place in time she’s living in, and somehow, even if we’ve never seen the banks of the creek or the inside of the cabin, we can know what she's talking about, maybe we can even say, "Oh, I've been there." All that to say, we are crafting this CD for all music listeners - from the songwriting to the musicianship.
So as we’re growing our families, growing this community... you listeners have become part of our growing family - We may not be 48 steps apart, but you are part of our freaky little commune, whether you like it or not... And we feel the great privilege of growing this generation of our little families together...
Samuel, my almost 2-year-old, shamelessly uses the word “help” (pronounced "hep".) His mama still has trouble saying that word, but turns out that parenting is as much about learning as it is about teaching. So with Samuel’s help, we’re asking... We sure could use your hep.
We’ve been working on coming up with ways that we could invite you into the recording process and even more, invite you into our “freaky little commune.” If you have a minute (or seven) watch the video to see the cabin, hear some songs and hear more from us. And if you have another minute, take a look at our incentives for contributing. We hope they are both entertaining and enticing.
And a very important side note for those of you who have already pre-ordered the Children’s CD: Thank you, you helped us kickstart our Kickstarter campaign. Automatically, you are getting a jar of Blueberry Jam along with your pre-ordered CD, but you are more than welcome to take us up on any of the other incentives...
A few more things - Kickstarter makes it possible for you to help us without having to choose one of the rewards that we came up with - so you can always just give without having to get a jar of our questionable blueberry jam, or you can give even more than the amount of an award. Also, in case you are curious about any other ways you can help us out - please share this campaign with your friends and neighbors, chickens and dogs.
And should we be surprised and exceed the goal, we will use the extra funds to begin the next project, to make more music, to tell our stories, to keep doing our best to give back as much as you have given to us.
