Our Story
In the summer of 2008 we decided to venture out from our homeland of California and share our music with the world. On that journey the sound of the didgeridoo spoke to us and changed the course of our lives. We landed in New York and shortly thereafter founded Didge Project as an umbrella organization for our many didgeridoo related projects. It has since evolved into a larger community and movement. We have now produced two albums and performed and taught at numerous venues and festivals. Through our music, workshops and collaborations with a number of wellness practitioners and yoga teachers, we intend to build a community that connects people all around the world through the universal language of sound.
Our New Album
Our upcoming album, As One, features original music written for an acoustic trio with the instrumentation of didgeridoo, saxophone, flute, harmonium and drums. After some time apart while Tyler Sussman was performing in Costa Rica, we reformulated in September 2010 and began writing songs and discussing plans for a new album. We soon met and began rehearsing with drummer Chaim Tolwin and it was clear our music was taking the direction of a larger sound. On As One AJ Block introduces a number of new instrumental combinations for didgeridoo performance including playing two didgeridoos at the same time (one on each side of the mouth) and playing the didgeridoo and harmonium at the same time by mounting the didgeridoo on a stand. Each song on As One evokes a distinct groove but always rooted in the continuity of didgeridoo vibrations.

A didgeridoo is an aboriginal Australian wind instrument made from hollow wood. One of the oldest known wind instruments, the first didgeridoos were made from fallen eucalyptus branches that had been naturally hollowed out by termites.
The didgeridoo is both a pitched instrument and a percussion instrument. Each didge has one fundamental tone as well as a series of overtones that can be altered by the lips of the player. The didge can also played rhythmically, serving as both a bass and a time keeping instrument.

A sound bath is a meditative sonic experience that creates a state of deep relaxation for the listener. We generally use didgeridoos but sound baths can be performed with gongs, singing bowls, chimes, harps and many other serene instruments.

AJ BLOCK and TYLER SUSSMAN are the founders of the didgeridoo awareness organization known as Didge Project. Originally jazz musicians from California, AJ and Tyler were forever transformed by the sounds of the didgeridoo. The instrument and its emphasis on breath control have led AJ and Tyler to a shared vision of the didgeridoo as a path to self-healing and deeper connection. AJ and Tyler currently live in Brooklyn, NY where they rarely leave the house without a didgeridoo.
