Writing Furiously...
And the end of the first draft of the first book is in sight. I've just popped out of world of Wollstonecraft to share with you one of the most important projects I've seen here: Fantasy author & philosophy professor Dr. Brendan Myer's FREE college-level text on critical thinking.

I do hope you'll join me in supporting this great project, so that it can be expanded, translated, and made available in multiple formats.
Okay, back to 1826 London for me: just getting to the good bit!

What's the status? Realize the creative process takes a bit but it's been over two months since we've heard anything.
Creator Mike on September 2, 2012
+1 as well. Any progress to share? Cheers.
Creator Andy Piper on September 1, 2012
+1 - please give us an updated ETA for ebooks
Creator Carla on September 1, 2012
I'm with the others above...still waiting two months after the estimated date. I really don't mind, but it would be nice to have an update at least once a month!
Creator Phillip Winn on August 21, 2012
Yes, please, an updated time estimate would be fantastic. Whether 2012 or 2013, whether this quarter or next, anything like that would be a balm to my troubled mind.
Thanks!
Creator Loren Parker on August 1, 2012
Howdy! Can you give us an update on status and expected finish date? We're still anxious for the publication.
Thanks!
Creator Aqua Drehz on July 28, 2012
I'm waiting for the copy for a long time would you mind if I ask about finished date?

Sara – I completely understand your reasons for caution. And I loved your "ironically amused" comment. It took me a minute to remember you live in a country with "Creation scientists". We don't have much of that here, and it never hits a school board or a government program, so I forget that it's not like that everywhere.
Creator Sara on June 28, 2012
Considering the subject, it seemed only logical that I should put my critical thinking skills to use and question Mr. Myers on the matter. I posted a comment on his project page, to which he replied promptly, thoroughly, and thoughtfully. I would encourage anyone with similar concerns to read what he wrote and pose any questions of their own. I think I'll be allowing my pledge to stand.

I don't want to speak for Brendan, but I know he's capable as a scholar of entertaining multiple perspectives simultaneously. He teaches students from all kinds of religious, non-religious and anti-religious backgrounds. When he teaches ethics, he teaches ethics, not "Religion X" ethics. And I'd also clarify that his Paganism is a philosophical Paganism (as in classical Greek philosophy) rather than religious "New Age" type Paganism. Dr Myers is one of those people like Joseph Campbell whose religious practice mostly involves underlining books. ;-)
So no, I don't think his spiritual inclination is going to cloud or adversely affect his ability to clearly communicate the value of logic, evidence, and objectivity. I think this is evidenced by the various schools and universities which have come to the same conclusion. Bottom line, his private religion just doesn't factor into this.
Newton was a deeply religious person. Plato was a Pagan. Aquinas. Copernicus was a Cathoiic priest. Roger Bacon was the founder of the modern scientific method and a Catholic monk. Religious thinkers can talk about thinking and set aside whatever religious bias we assume they might harbour.
Bottom line, this is a worthwhile project from a qualified scholar and effective writer. I'm supporting it.

@Stephanie: I tried to figure that out, but couldn't see how to do it. Either way I'm still undecided because A.) maybe it will legitimately be about critical thinking and B.) if not, I may still want to read it for the lulz. However, not knowing if A. or B., I'm not sure if I want to fund such a thing. :/
Creator Stephanie Bryant on June 28, 2012
@Sara: FYI, you are not obligated to keep your pledge. You can certainly retract it if you want to, before funding completes.

Hey, Jordan. Interesting find. How much do you know about this author/project? The pitch appealed to me so I pledged $10. Then I was surprised to discover that my receipt went to an organization called "Solar Cross Temple". This prompted me to do more research on the author, Brendan Meyers to discover that he seems to have a suspiciously spiritual (pagan) bent. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that he's not qualified to teach critical thinking, but it does make me wonder...
Could be one of those spiritual types who nonetheless values science and critical thinking, or he could be one of those types who latches onto the language of critical thinking to unleash his own spiritualism upon unsuspecting skeptics. (Although, I suppose, by definition no skeptic should be unsuspecting.)
I guess I'm stuck with the pledge, but now I have to wait to find out if I will be educated or ironically amused.

yes Jordan, thanks for the tip, that's a good project !
and all the best to you in your draft.....
