5 Weeks After...

Update #24 · Jun 5, 2012 · 14 comments

... the end of the campaign, and the budget showed up yesterday.

The first thing I did was cover my rent for the next 4 months, so I don't even have to worry about it.  I won't have to know what the date is, which means I can just live in 1826 as much as I want.  This is an unbelievable gift for a creator.  I also went out and bought a back-up hard drive thingie, which seemed prudent.

Now, when we set out on this road together, this was for one book, and the project management for one book.  April was for money raising, May was for book-writing, June was for fulfillment and publishing.  That was Plan A.

There wasn't really a Plan B, but as soon as Plan A was a dim speck in the rearview mirror as we rocketed past our goals, we had to improvise.  So April was for jumping up and down and answering media inquiries, May was for talking to lawyers and accountants and agents and producers, and the end of May was about having surgery.  I'm still in bed and the meds are pretty significant, but I won't bother you with the gruesome details (aside from mentioning that the details are indeed gruesome, and that 12 surgical staples make anybody look like a shark-attack victim).  But surgery meant postponing a New York trip to meet with a whole lot of tremendous creative people with access to all kinds of ways to collaborate with building the world of Ada & Mary.

So, now here we are at the new Plan B.  The significant thing is that I'm writing, the world of Wollstonecraft is unfolding, and it's coming along swimmingly. I've incorporated so as to keep as much of the funds in the project budget as possible, and signed with the Cooke Agency to represent me for film rights and the onslaught of publishing inquiries, and that too is going well.  Nothing is carved in stone, but it's very likely that all your questions beginning with a "Will there be a Wollstonecraft (insert thing you'd like to see here)..." will be answered with a "Yes."

What this means of course is that the Plan A schedule of being able to get books to people this summer is less than likely.  But there are all kinds of things that we CAN do, like give you sneak-previews of chapters and illustration sketches – and of course prints, tees, and the short stories will all be on track.  But as soon as publishers are involved, everything takes longer – but that's simply because it's all happening on a larger, global scale.

So that's really the news.  The schedule originally posted was for the original scale of the project, and now that the scale has changed dramatically, the schedule must change as well.  But everybody will get everything to the best of my ability and as fast as I can possibly get it to you.

I again want to to say THANK YOU for all your generosity and input and enthusiasm, and I want you all to know how greatly and how deeply I appreciate how much you've done and are continuing to do.  I'm working hard to live up to your expectations, and over the next several months I'll be doing nothing but writing the books and meeting fans and backers, reading at cons and libraries along the way.

A website is being cobbled together, and there'll be a newsletter and all kinds of good stuff there, and I'll tell you all about where to find it as soon as it's up!

Again and again, thank you thank you THANK YOU.  It's real.  It's happening.  We're doing this together.
