Give a man a car, he'll drive to work. Give a man a motorcycle, he'll have adventures. A 365-day writing / riding project and book.

Hello, and welcome to my Kickstarter campaign for The TwoFifty Project!

The TwoFifty Project is a writing project that will take place over the web for the next year and culminate in the form of a published book (both print and electronic). Writing the project out on the web and on an ongoing basis allows for an immediate payback to investors, while a published book at the end creates a goal to keep the project on track.

As you may have guessed by now, the project is about motorcycles. Specifically, it's about the changes that occur in a person's life when they leave their car behind and ride their motorcycle every day for a year. Some of it will concern the nuts & bolts of motorcycle ownership: maintenance, care & feeding, safety, etc. Some of it will detail rides, both the day to day trips to work as well as the weekend excursions out into the rainforest's windy roads. (I live in Washington and we do have lovely rainforests here.) Since I'm a bit obsessive, other parts will concern the history of motorcycling and background information about interesting bikes, riders, and events in motorcycle history.

For the most part, though, the motorcycle will be a lens through which one year of my life will be viewed and examined. A lot happens in a year, and while I won't bore you with minutiae, a motorcycle is an interesting vehicle (pardon the pun) through which I can focus the stories that occur in the rest of my life. I'm thinking of something like Julie and Julia on a motorcycle, but with less vodka and more swearing.

I've been writing on the web since 2004, and writing in general since 1994 or so (yes, I was 14, and no I don't think any of it was any good). My writing focus has mainly been on personal story-telling, short stories and micro-fiction, and poetry. The tone of The TwoFifty Project will be humorous autobiography in the vein of Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence, or anything by David Sedaris. This is ambitious, sure, but everyone's got to start somewhere, and you can help make it happen.

If you're interested in motorcycles and want to help bring them into the spotlight (especially smaller bikes like the 250 I plan on getting) then this is the project for you. The TwoFifty Project will cover motorcycling in a way that has not been seen before and will be of interest to anyone who rides a motorcycle or who dreams of motorcycles in their spare time.

The website is up and ready to go at twofiftyproject.com. There's more information there, a prologue of sorts, and some writing samples. Check it out, then come back here and offer your support. Every little bit helps, and I'll be glad to have you along for the ride.

Thanks!
