About this project

[UPDATE]: We have made our goal! YAY! Super huge thanks to all of you who contributed - we're working hard to make this record as good as we possibly can, and will do our best to not disappoint!! There are still a few days remaining if you want to jump on board and haven't yet - any cash over our goal goes towards the record as well, and we're still offering all the CDs, DVDs, etc!

[Original Message]:
Hello everyone, nice of you to stop by!

We are A Fight to the Death, and we're currently working on our second full-length album (if you haven't heard us before, check out some tracks from our last album at one of the links below). As many of you know, recording a record is a bit pricey for an independent band, and putting it out costs even more. Fortunately for bands like us, the internet age has provided a ton of fun and unique ways to release music without going bankrupt or getting screwed by a record label!

So, we are seizing the opportunity to have you, our fans, involved. In a nutshell, you help us fund our new record and in exchange we will give you some really cool stuff. For more info about the stuff we're giving away, be sure to watch the video above or check out the list to the right.

Also, remember that if we don't reach our goal by the deadline, you don't have to pay us anything! That also means that nobody gets their prizes though, so you should encourage your friends to contribute as well.

Please help us to make and release this new record - in addition to the the exclusive stuff we're offering, all who contribute will also have our eternal gratitude!!

A Fight to the Death

Straightpin Atlanta, GA

CJ Bargamian (guitar, vocals, ukelele)
Mark Carbone (percussion)
Nathan T Green (piano, accordion, backing vocals)
George Wallace (pedal steel)
Daniel Winn (bass)

Instead of the usual boring band bio, we’ll just tell you that A Fight to the Death is Avant-Western-Americana-Gypsy music built with Latin and Mediterranean rhythms, surf twang, and melodies fit for lonely midnight drives through the desert.

Here is a series of random facts about AFTTD:

1. Daniel tends to bring good beer to rehearsal, whereas the rest of us usually arrive with PBR or High Life cans.
2. Whenever we record part of a rehearsal, the video camera always ends up being pointed at Daniel. As a result, we have dozens of low-budget music videos for our songs, all starring only Daniel and occasionally George’s back.
3. Mark recently flipped over his bike’s handlebars and broke his clavicle and a rib.
4. We wear shirts and ties on stage because A) we’re gentlemen; B) classy attire does not go out of style; and C) ZZTop tells the truth: ladies go crazy for a sharp-dressed man.
5. At a recent show, our opening act was a panel discussion and Q&A session regarding organic farming.
6. We’ll be recording our second record in the fall of 2009.
7. Our hometown of Atlanta is currently making us very proud musically – go team.
8. Nathan doesn’t believe in vegetables – not even pickles. Don’t ever tell him that french fries come from potatoes (shhhh…).
9. George knows more than you do about axe handles.
10. We rehearse in a big metal barn. Seriously.
11. CJ thinks that two of the worst things in the world are pleated pants and ironic trucker hats.

The press says:

“…an array of accordions, honky-tonk pianos, and Romanian rhythms, sun-stroked telecasters supply the album’s cinematic ether, electing the group as the most likely candidate to have scored the notoriously soundtrack-barren No Country for Old Men. A sepia-toned album of stark confrontations, Afttd sees itself through to its own bittersweet conclusions, and despite the band’s Atlanta home-base, A Fight to the Death’s cosmopolitan sound should guarantee it enough ammunition to nourish its internationally-sized ambitions.” – Flagpole Athens, 9/24/08

“AFTTD sees Bargamain’s gorgeous songwriting surrounded by a very talented band that seems to compliment him perfectly and results in a tasty flavour of nu-Americana.” – OhmPark.org, 10/07/08

“…A Fight to the Death crafts epic, filmic Morricone-esque pop scores…” – Creative Loafing, 9/01/08
