Hey there! Great to see friends getting behind the project and showing support! Thanks to Will, Dan, David & rusti for the pledges this afternoon.. looks like I'll be scheming to create the finest mix tape of Malian music out there for y'all. (Although it's hard to beat "Mali Lolo!" by my friend Jon Kertzer of KEXP in Seattle. Check out his weekly African music radio show, The Best Ambiance, Mondays 6-9pm PST. Some highlights on the music front:
-Toured in the U.S. and Europe
-'Western Tales' received positive reviews on a number of blogs and publications, including Americana UK, No Depression, Paste, Maverick, Flagpole, and others
-'Western Tales' debuted at #4 on the Euro Americana charts in November 2008, holding strong in December (#7) and January '09 (#11) as well
-'Western Tales' was the 5th most added album at Americana radio in the U.S. in November '08
-Performed with such artists as Okkervil River, Kevn Kinney, Abigail Washburn & the Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck, Victoria Williams, Eilen Jewell, and others.
Beyond music, I like traveling, reading, baseball, hanging out, eating food, interesting & weird people, watching movies (I mean, films), walking around... Oh, I'm a big fan of Scrabble and all (well, most) things Mali. I believe in and care deeply about sustainable international development work. Go Dawgs, Go Browns, Go Braves.. What? No way, I did a sleep study too!
