We want to tell this story and tell it with a unique visual style similar to Hollywood films of the 1950's. Our budget is set to the minimal amount it will cost to make this film with the production values needed to capture the look and feel we're aiming for. Completion of this film will depend on a lot of favors, and some compromises so any pledge you offer will help lift the quality of the film and minimize our production challenges. Come on board! Battling for Burton! is a 30 minute black and white satire and an homage to director Tim Burton. With an original story, it will also feature visual references to many of Burton's films including Ed Wood, Vincent, Mars Attacks!, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Frankenweenie.
How Kickstarter works: Pledge the amount of your choice. At the end of our Kickstarter campaign, if the combined total of all pledges for our project meets our $60,000 goal, then the credit cards of those who pledge are charged and we receive the funds to make our film. If we don't meet our goal, then the money is not withdrawn from your account and no rewards are provided. If we exceed our $65,000 goal, then the extra funds (and we could use them) will be used to increase the production values of the film and make it even better! Aside from a 5% Kickstarter fee and a 3-5% Amazon credit card processing fee, all funds raised will be used directly in the production of the film - we want our backers to see their contributions in the finished film.
The story - an actor and his wolf: Set in Los Angeles during the holiday season, this original fable tells the story of Tim Stewart, a naive and passionate actor living in Burbank with his pet wolf and soon to be ex-girlfriend Kisha Forbes. When Tim's best friend Nate Price - an A-list movie star - informs Tim that director Tim Burton is looking for a new leading man, Tim stops at nothing to get himself into the audition room. Mischief and a lot of mayhem follows...

Battling for Burton! will be directed by John Fitzpatrick based on a script written by Adam J. Yeend. Deborah Mozer is producing. Steven Spielberg's long-time script supervisor Ana-Maria Quintana is joining us as Associate Producer. James Pickel (Supernatural, Smallville) will serve as editor on the project. The rest of our production team will be announced as the campaign continues.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
For the filmmakers, the biggest challenge will be capturing a look and feel of the film on a tight budget that not only pays homage to Tim Burton but also has our own unique style. We want to honor this filmmaker whom we admire so much but also with a limited budget, will be aiming to achieve the highest production value possible, at a low cost - something that can be a challenge in Los Angeles.
There's the logistical challenge of shooting in and around Hollywood - we want to keep the filmmaking local and based in Los Angeles which can be expensive so we're already in the process of seeking out locations that are still local but can be used for a minimal cost. The location of a mansion in the Hollywood hills where our climax takes place is an expensive set piece - we're already exploring potentially building this as a set rather than renting a real house in the hills.
Another challenge is scheduling; we have so much talent on board this film that in the six day shoot, working around busy actor/crew schedules is something we've already begun to address. With every cast and crew member keeping us updated on their schedules, we're confident we can work around this so that everyone gets to do their part of the film. We have the advantage in the way the script is written that it will be easy to break up the use of our cast so that they will be able to shoot most of their scenes on the one location within the six day shoot which will help ease this potential challenge.
On the plus side, we've had such a positive response to the script alone that we've managed to assemble not only an extremely talented cast who’re committed to this project but also a production team who're all prepared to give their time to see that this film gets made - everyone on our team believes in this story and wants to see that it gets told by capturing this older style of classic Hollywood filmmaking which is very rare these days.
We also want to ensure our backers are taken on a fun journey with this film. From pre-production right through post, we will be aiming to keep all our supporters informed and involved via our Kickstarter and Facebook page; this also applies to delays (if any) in our backers receiving their rewards. We're so excited by the potential for this film, and we want our backers to be a part of it and share in our excitement!
We also have the challenge of Magnum the wolf-dog. He gave a great audition but he can be stubborn - we'll be using a lot of bones and chicken breasts to see that he cooperates.

We're moving forward with pre-production as best we can and with the mind set that we will reach our funding goal. We're looking to film 'Battling for Burton!' within the first 2 months of 2013.

Our backers will be kept fully updated on the progress of the film's production. Backers will have access to behind the scenes footage as well as any teaser trailers we release as we move through production. The film will be available to our backers in the form of a digital download or DVD; we plan to submit this film to film festivals around the world.
