Update #12: Rewards
I've sent out rewards to all those who sent their mailing address before December 17 and will send out any remaining rewards after the new year when we return from a trip to the states for the holidays.
I hope you enjoy your rewards and be sure to check www.iloveacorns.com/recipes.html from late January for more recipes and ideas for cooking with acorn flour. Acorn flour does not have gluten and therefore should only make up 30% of the total flour content when making bread. Think walnut flour and you'll have a better idea about how best to use your acorn flour, a little goes a long way for flavour, colour and aroma.

Update #10: Rainy days on Kea...
Good morning to all you wonderful acorn backers!
While I wait for the acorns to ripen and volunteer gatherers to arrive I am working on a new cookbook all about gathering, processing and cooking with acorns. If any of you have any specific questions or suggestions, please send them along so I can include them in what I'm hoping will be the formative reference guide to eating acorns.
Acorns can be picked at any of the ripened stages shown in the photo above.
For those of you collecting acorns this year keep in mind that the 1st acorns to fall, the ones that ripen much sooner than the majority, are usually infested by moth larvae and should be discarded or fed to pigs!

Like most cancer survivors, Marcie has a keen awareness of what she really wants to do and has committed herself to helping her adopted community and the local environment to not only survive but thrive through these difficult times in Greece.
Kostis has Kean roots, was raised in Athens, and returned to the island in 2000 to keep bees, build a wooden boat, plant vineyards, learn to play the bouzouki & promote hiking holidays. Together they run Red Tractor Farm, a guesthouse and small farm year round on Kea island.
