[AC]2 Gallery is a contemporary, not-for-profit art space located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the past 16 years, we have presented over 150 exhibitions, artist talks, performances, and film screenings within our walls and out on the street in partnership with other local arts organizations. We have exhibited over 500 local, and national artists in our gallery since opening our doors.

When you pledge your information is taken as a placeholder (like a hotel reservation) but you are not charged until after the campaign is over and only IF we make our goal. With our project, if it succeeds, your pledge would be processed on May 29th, 5:30pm Central Time...or shortly after.
As the project states, it would be going directly to produce the 10 annual exhibitions we're hosting for the 2012 season. Nuts and bolts stuff, like paint, lightbulbs, hardware, equipment, wood, drywall, etc. In terms of labor it would be going to one or more of our staff that install, de-install, curate, haul, moderate events, gallery sit, manage sales, pack and unpack art...and all the janitorial drudgery that no one associates with the job of curating art exhibitions. That's a boatload of labor and materials for a year of quality art exhibitions. The remainder of the goal, approximately half, would be spent to upgrade the necessary tech equipment to create the digital archive of the over 150 exhibitions and 500 artists we've shown here since 1995. Since the majority of the the first 5-7 years of exhibition documentation is not in digital format, it means hours and hours of scanning, editing, photoshop, and then many more hours of post-editing and building the DVD Archive. We've got a lot of friends who'll do this on the cheap but honestly, it's a monster project and it is going to cost a bit of cash to pay someone to record such a long and diverse history.
Why don't you just have the artists pay for all of the costs of running a gallery for the public to enjoy?Well, I'm glad you asked. Most galleries in fact do suck the life out of the artists they show by gouging 50% of the sales of their creative output, or by charging them enormous fees to rent the space. We differ in our philosophy. [AC]2 has never passed on the costs of having a gallery to the artists. Since 1995 we've only charged between $100 - $200 gallery fee per month split among the artists to have an exhibition and ARTISTS GET 100% OF ALL SALES. If you've seen a show here you know that quite often there's not really a product to be sold, it's installation art, or cutting edge stuff that is not commercially viable for this art market. We do it because it needs to be shown, has integrity, and quality not because we might be able to make a buck off of the artists. We've run the space not-for-profit since 1995 because we put the artist first, before commerce and in sixteen years anyone who has worked here has volunteered all of their time and energy to make it a success for the artists and the arts community of Albuquerque.
