You know how awesome The Lady Ms. Vagina Jenkins is as a performer. You know, the crazy gloves peels, the sexy bedroom eyes, the 30 minute striptease marathons, the spectacle, the pure electricity!
Well, if you've experienced it, share it, I say!
I've been a radical performance artist for 10 years and have been performing burlesque for 7 years now. And while Atlanta/the southeast have loved and embraced the Vag, the rest of the world hasn't quite caught on.
I will never abandon my southern roots--Atlanta's art scene has nurtured me and made me what I am. I just want to be able to spread my mission/my art as far and wide as possible so that folks can see the southern take on burlesque and performance art.
As a burlesque performer, my mission is to reclaim visual and erotic space for all the marginalized communities I represent. Which is an overly academic way of saying that as queer woman of size and color I want to be a huge, big , bright, feathered beacon of awesome-ness.
Sure, I'm also an attention whore, but I also believe strongly that every woman deserves to take up space and be beautiful on her own terms, defying, queering and otherwise redefining what it means to be femme in the world.
So I'm trying to get the word out there. But in order to take up visual space and show the people far and wide what I'm all about and what SEXY freed from class/gender/orientation/race boundaries looks like--- I'm gonna have to get out there.
I'm going to need a little community support, y'all!
The traveling Vagina Jenkins Roadshow
My ultimate goal for 2010 is to travel the country performing and exposing myself and my mission to as much of North America as possible.
The only way I can see that I'd be able to do this is to RV it (or possibly a nice conversion van.)
I have a network of amazing queers, burlesque and drag performers across the country that are willing to book and house me, but the travel expenses of flying and Greyhounding it every other week are severely cutting into the rhinestone fund.
This past weekend, in NYC I made $160 in bookings/merch sales. My plane fare was $158...net profit $2...absolutely NOT sustainable.
So I'm looking for a little community help and support.
The Buck Tuck $5-$50

I've recently been accepted to perform at the 4th Annual London Burlesque Week April 20-25.
Which is amazing...and daunting. Recently I checked in with my good friends at Delta and found the cheapest flight for $701....ouch!
As you know, my day job is as a server at a local diner. It would take me a little less than 2 months of wages to make $701--assuming I had absolutely no bills and didn't eat anything ;-)
I'm going to need a little community support, y'all!
