About this project

Are you…..

-Tired of waking up to your daily news forecast of Highs in Foreclosures, Lows in employment, and a 100% chance of auto restructuring?

-Sick of those hiding behind soft lenses and good lighting casting a dark shadow over Detroit, one clever sound byte after another?

-Disgusted with the nightly news for raking in the millions while headlining every program with another problem their “live on the scene, action investigative reporting team” found in your City?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, not to fear, Positive Cities is here!

About Positive Cities:

Positive Cities is the website expansion of the Positive Detroit Blog, integrating social media to encourage reader interaction.
Positive Cities will be created to substantially increase exposure of valuable local news and expand upbeat media coverage about local communities; offering a user-friendly based environment for residents to interact, engage, and rediscover the love and pride within your own backyard, while driving passion within the marketplace.

Direct Benefit To You:

Positive Cities is determined to change the landscape of news. Our goal is to give a voice back you, the people, by creating a two sided conversation, and changing the perception of how your area is represented on a local, national and global scale.

Our Immediate Goal:

Positive Cities is a non-profit and on Kickstarter to raise monies to fund our mission. The immediate goal is to pay for the build out of the Positive Cities website. Due to the interactive nature, many custom features have to be designed, created, and programmed. This is a very extensive site and there is nothing out there like it. We will begin with the +Detroit portion and other cities in Michigan. Our goal is much larger, to create a section on the site for every viable city in the US. We will be keeping close attention on where the pledge dollars are coming from when determining which cities will be completed after the initial stages are launched.

So, are you excited to be part of a ground breaking, positive community website? Well than shimmy on over and make your pledge, receive a great prize, and become part of the task force that takes your positive message viral and changes the world’s perception your city.

Pledge $10 or more

Pledge $10 or more and receive a virtual brick with your name and pledge amount on it. This will be placed permanently on the website to help spell out "+Detroit." The larger the amount pledged, the larger the brick. When you scroll over each individual brick with your mouse, the brick magnifies the information so you can see the name and the amount. Your first and last name will be placed at the bottom of the page. Mouse over your name, and your brick will be located. This is a thank you to everyone who pledges.

Straightpin Detroit, MI

I am a Detroit Transplant, growing up in the burbs of Flint, MI. After surviving 13 years of Catholic Education, I moved west to attend James Madison at Michigan State University with the intent to become a Constitutional Lawyer. During my first semester, I was introduced to technology; fell madly in loved with it and eventually switched my major to Telecommunications. By the end of my first senior year, I had a random encounter that redirected my focus and began purchasing rental properties in Michigan's Capital, which lead me to a career in Mortgage Planning upon graduation.

In late 2004, I packed my bags and moved east to Metro Detroit. By the end of 2008, I decided it was time to dust off the cobwebs and use my college degree after being inspired by a real estate friend who was venting about the negativity of the local news media to create her blog Positive Detroit. Fast forward to April 10, 2009 and Positive Cities Detroit Dot Com launches with a Detroit Tiger’s Opening Day Tweet Up held from the Press Box.

Besides my passion for promoting the positives from the Mitten state, I enjoy discovering hidden gems in and around the D, taking my dog for long walks on the River Front, cheering on my favorite sports teams, defying Gravity during Bikram Yoga, spending copious amounts of time making itunes playlists, and perfecting my accidental chef skilz. I reside in Fabulous Ferndale.
