LAUNCHING DECEMBER 13, 2009 - Become part of the largest public art project in McCarren Park’s history. Support Jason Krugman's Living Objects!
McCarren Park, located in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint community, is a major hub for outdoor activity, and the biggest park in North Brooklyn, drawing thousands of visitors each month. Jason Krugman Studio LLC and North Brooklyn Public Art Coalition (NbPac) present a site-specific light installation in the park for Fall 2009. We are pleased to have Open Alliance for North Brooklyn, the area's premiere resource for public space and parks, and the New York City Parks Department as collaborators in bringing to McCarren Park the largest public art installation of the park’s 100 year history. Titled "Living Objects," the installation will feature 3 sculptures installed on grounds of the south central portion of the park. The 3 illuminated figures will be perched in various poses on the park's pedestal, greeting visitors with a captivating and beautiful spectacle in the Brooklyn night.
Becoming the first major public art installation in McCarren Park, Living Objects invites the public to engage with the park and the surrounding environment. As part of a long-standing tradition of temporary art installations in New York City Parks, Living Objects animates this Park space, transforming it into a cultural ground, making art accessible to all. The installation will serve McCarren Park's regular users while alluring the local community, businesses and visitors, becoming a beacon of light that will draw passers-by to participate in the culture and public space they are a part of, further entrenching McCarren Park as the destination space in North Brooklyn.
Jason Krugman’s Living Objects is presented by North Brooklyn Public Art Coaltion (NbPac), in collaboration with Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn (OSA) and with support from NYC Department of Parks & Recreation. Lead sponsorship has been provided by Light-Up Brooklyn. http://www.lightupbrooklyn.com
