About this project
The Triangle area of North Carolina which includes Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro is bursting with new music--and as a small studio in Carrboro, we feel like we are in the middle of something amazing. We at Nightsound Studios want to capture this movement on a one-of-a-kind compilation. Nightsound presents Musical Chairs is compilation of local bands covering each other.
But there's a twist...
Bands will not know who they are covering until they pull the name of another band also on the compilation, out of a hat. They will then pick a song by their chosen artist and cover it using whatever resources they may need.
We've invited 15 bands spanning all different genres to be featured on this CD recorded, edited and mastered by the engineers at Nightsound Studios. We plan to press 500 copies of the CD to be distributed for FREE at an associated charity show at a local venue. In addition we will be printing download cards for bands to take with them wherever they play.
But we need your help!
CDs and download cards are expensive! The artists are starving! Our power bill will be huge! While we need to cover our expenses, the engineers and the studio are donating their time and are foregoing any profit. We recognize that this is a great time for music in the area and it is worth celebrating as a neighborhood. We think that you will feel the same way too and we appreciate your help in making Musical Chairs a reality!

The following bands have thrown their name into the hat: Birds and Arrows, SWASO, Puritan Rodeo, North Elementary, Soft Company, Butterflies, Wylie Hunter and the Cazadores and Pecosa, Erie Choir, Luego, New Town Drunks, I was totally destroying it, The Pneurotics, Lizzy Ross Band.

Nightsound Studios is a recording studio in sunny Carrboro, NC, which is considered the creative heart of the Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill).
Our staff of engineers, producers and session musicians all understand that recording is both a science AND an art that represents your ideas. That means we believe in doing things differently if it means making your ideas sound great and reach the ears you're targeting.
