VIA Records Label Launch and Support for Recording Multi-media Commissions

In 2013-14 VIA Records will produce new albums by Kronos Quartet cellist Jeffrey Zeigler in addition to two interdisciplinary albums: VIA founder Paola Prestini's Oceanic Verses and composer Anna Clyne's The Violin.

Due to the critical acclaim of VIA’s co-production (with Beth Morrison Projects) of Oceanic Verses (composed by Paola Prestini, will include filmmaker Ali Hossaini, librettist Donna Di Novelli, singers Helga Davis, Chris Burchett, Hila Plitmann and Claudio Prima, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and Washington Chorus conducted by Maestro Julian Wachner), VIA is planning to record this celebrated work for commercial DVD/CD release as well as launch its own recording label. All proceeds from this Kickstarter campaign will go to directly support these projects.

VisionIntoArt (VIA) is currently in the process of rebranding and expanding; the relaunch of our label is at the heart of our unveiling plan.

Why the VisionIntoArt label?

By producing its own label, VIA will simultaneously create an opportunity for audiences across the world to enjoy new compositions while providing an archived glimpse into the creative process by emerging composers with established artists.

How does VIA support new work?

VIA is a non-profit multidisciplinary production company that supports emerging composers as well as the rich canon of interdisciplinary work being created.

With the recording of Oceanic Verses,  as well as the launch of the VIA label to create recordings of The Violin and North & Glaub, two new albums by Jeffrey Zeigler, we are promoting outstanding young composers: Anna Clyne (composer in residence at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), Paola Prestini (composer of Oceanic Verses and founder of VisionIntoArt) , Bryce Dessner, Mohammed Fairouz, Vijay Iyer, Glenn Kotche, Nico Muhly, Maja S.K. Ratkje, Richard Reed Parry, Valgeir Sigurdsson, and Eric Whitacre and securing their work into the contemporary classical music canon.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The risks of launching this project is that it is a large endeavor! However, VIA has been around for more than ten years and we have grown slowly and steadily. We feel poised to take on this new program in our non profit with a creative and steadfast approach. VIA has also recently hired a new managing director, and the team now includes several interns, and a strong board and advisory board. We are excited by the challenges, and do not see them as risks, rather, as necessary steps to achieve the benchmarks we have set for ourselves as a non profit. And recording and commissioning new work is at the heart and core of our mission.
