About this project

I want to craft 50 pendants for a "HarpSinger Labyrinth Series". First I would kiln-fuse two or more layers of regular and dichroic glass in my home studio to make 50 pieces each measuring about 1.5" x 1.5" square. Next I would hire another artist to make 50 stencils of my image of the 11-circuit Chartres Labyrinth [13th century]. She is ready to work as soon as I give her the go-ahead [that is, when I can pay her]. Then I would hire time and use of equipment at a professional glass studio where I would sandblast through the stencil, thus etching an impression of the Chartres Labyrinth on each fused glass piece. I would also fire polish and edit the pendants as needed using specialized grinders and tools. Although the image would be the same for all in this series, each pendant would be "one-of-a-kind" due to the use of different colors or combinations of glass. Lastly, a sterling silver bail would be affixed to each piece. [Necklace, chain or cord, not included.]

As you can see, making these pendants is a rather involved, time-consuming process and upfront money is needed to buy materials, hire the stencil artist and rent glass studio time and equipment.

Upon completion, the HarpSinger Labyrinth Series of pendants will be publicized and offered for sale on my website, www.harpsinger.com, on FaceBook and in various juried art shows. I plan to market them to area labyrinths where I have previously played harp as accompaniment for meditative labyrinth walks.

I am a Celtic harper/singer turned fused glass artist who creates distinctive, somewhat high-end, one-of-a-kind jewelry under the professional name "HarpSinger®".

For the past 5 years, I have been learning how to fuse glass and, by now, have developed considerable skill. I love using my kiln in my home studio to fuse regular and dichroic glass as the first step toward creating exciting jewelry. The colors shimmer and change before your very eyes -- so much fun. When fused at 1500 degrees or more, glass has its own "mind" and outcomes are always surprises. I rent time/space/equipment at a local glass studio for sandblasting and/or editing my pieces with grinders and other specialized tools. Per piece, the entire process can take 8 - 12 hours, especially when each is annealed for strength and durability. Jewelry made this way is stunningly beautiful, durable and of heirloom quality.
