About this project

Pie in the Park is a yearly pie-baking event held in Brooklyn's Prospect Park.

Last year's event was so successful that it got covered in Metromix New York. Check out the beautiful slideshow here!

Pie in the Park is also a movement - a movement to get people in the kitchen, to enjoy their local park, to interact with their community, to preserve heirloom baking traditions and to eat meals together.

In the past three years, the Pie in the Park event has created many stories and recipes, which I want to compile into a book.

Pie in the Park: Stories and Recipes of Pie will elaborate on the idea that pie isn't just a delicious baked good, it is a catalyst for social change.

The book will feature an index of delicious pie crust recipes, tools of the trade, pie baking tips, recipes both sweet and savory and family baking stories.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to create a grant for Clinton Hill CSA to subsidize their low-income shares, as towards covering the costs of the Pie in the Park event and beyond.

I'm asking for $7500 to cover the costs of self-publishing the Pie in the Park book.

I know it sounds like a lot, so here's the breakdown:

$5000 estimate to print 1000 copies of the book - coil bound, great cover, 2 color pms + black, and at least 64 pages.

And because I am committed to paying people for their hard work, and part of this project is about fostering the awesome community of Brooklyn and beyond (of which a large part are creatives looking for great work) a portion of the money raised will go to the book's talented designer - Matthew Fetter - and amazing illustrator - Sara Schlesinger.

Add in credit card processing fees, and the fee paid to Kickstarter, and $7500 becomes the realistic amount I would need to fund this project.

So please, donate to Pie in the Park and get a piece, of the action I mean.

**Pie in the Park 2010 will be held on Sunday, August 15th at 1pm on the Long Meadow in Prospect Park. Save the date, and donate to get an invite this exciting event!**
