Update #6: What's Hotter than a Match?

Posted on December 1, 2009

TWO MATCHES!
That's right, two separate backers have laid down a challenge for our last 10 day push.
MATCH ONE: Will donate $200 in matching funds; for every dollar pledged up to $200 we'll receive another dollar. It's like doubling your pledge--how's that for stretching your money?
MATCH TWO: Once we raise $5,500, there is a second backer who has promised to kick in the last $500 to push us over the top. OK, technically not a match, but an extremely exciting offer all the same!

It's going to be close, but our goal is achievable. With the help of these generous matching backers, it's even more so--for them, and for all of you, I am truly thankful.

Thanks for being part of our MCT family and for helping us to get the word out!

Peace & respect,
Joy
:)

Update #5: Where is all this money going, anyway?

Posted on November 4, 2009

Some of you know that I am an editor. Why, then, do I need to hire someone else to cut this film? Because after spending 6 years shooting it, producing it, and directing it, I’ve become desensitized to the footage; I no longer have perspective and I need a fresh set of eyes to help craft a coherent, respectful story from the raw elements I’ve collected.

Enter Janet Baus. She is not only experienced and skillful, having edited insightful documentaries like Cruel and Unusual, which chronicles the hardships of transgender women who have been incarcerated, and long-running television shows like ‘Trauma: Life in the ER’, and the award-winning PBS series, ‘In The Life’, she has also had a successful career as a producer; the PBS documentary ‘After Stonewall: From the Riots to the Millennium’ and Dangerous Living: Coming Out in the Developing World being on her list of successfully broadcast projects. She empathizes with the film subjects, and her caring approach emphasizes the human aspects of communities on the fringe.

$5K of the money we’re raising is budgeted toward paying Janet to complete editing the film. The remaining $1K will go toward Kickstarter fundraising costs, editing gear (external drives, for example), music and duplication costs.

Janet has been a great gift to this project in a number of ways. She and brings her wealth of experience to the table in a very modest, unegotistical way; she is a pleasure to work with. She has been generous with her knowledge and her connections. She believes in the project enough to provide her services at a reduced rate, knowing that the funds have, for the most part, come out of my rather shallow pockets.

Now I’m asking for some help from my friends -$10 at a time- so we can bring this project into the home stretch. If you’ve already kicked in, I thank you most humbly, and ask that you tell your friends—we need all the help we can get!

Update #4: Success Story!

Posted on October 26, 2009

Many thanks to everyone who participated in our Matching Funds challenge . We raised $410 BEFORE our FAB's< additional donation of $100. By joining the MCT Family you are helping to keep the momentum going. Big accomplishments are made little by little, and every contribution makes a big difference to this project. Thank you for being part of it!

Update #3: Matchmaker, Matchmaker....

Posted on October 12, 2009

Hello, MCT Enthusiasts!

We have a Fabulous Anonymous Backer (FAB) who wants to spice up the campaign by offering matching funds; if we can raise $100 this week, our FAB will generously contribute another $100.

That means if 10 people contribute $10 each by the end of the day on Monday, October 19, we’ll actually have raised $200. It’ll not only work for new pledges, but will also be honored if existing backers up their dollar amounts.

The gifts you give will not only help to make MCT’s campaign success a reality, but the money you give literally multiplies (at least, up to $100) as it is matched by the FAB! What could be better?

So, C’mon, join the fun! Tell your friends! It only takes a second, and you’ll not only have my eternal gratitude, you’ll be part of making something beautiful.

Update #2: To See, or Not to See?

Posted on September 16, 2009

Hey, Everyone!

You may or may not have noticed that I've uploaded a new video that's a bit more demure than the original -- we had to blur out the full frontal nudity in order to be included on the browse pages on Kickstarter. I just wanted to let everyone know that if you choose the reward with the .mp4 option, you'll get to choose which version you'd like to have: Family Friendly or Au Naturale!

Thanks again for your generous support. We can get this done -- together!

Update #1: Backstory

Posted on September 14, 2009

I’d like to briefly share with you how it all started …

My best friend from high school came to visit me one day while I was in between projects. During a heartfelt and open late night conversation, he introduced me to the fascinating and intriguing world of male nude yoga. The excitement and wonder he expressed in describing his first class was a true inspiration to me, and a story worth sharing. I picked up the phone the next morning and made an appointment to begin shooting Men Coming Together: the tale of Hot Nude Yoga.

That was back in 2003. Since then, there have been many adventures – my wife and I hocked our jewelry so I could follow the men on their Hawaiian retreat, and their compelling life stories continued from there. Family and friends have generously lent their support, giving their time and their talents to help bring this film from vision to reality.

Using the funds secured with the last fundraiser, I have been able to secure the services of an incredibly talented, very qualified editor by the name of Janet Baus. Janet has an intuitive understanding of this project, and brings to it her extensive experience. What’s more, she has the capability to make great use of the material.

Janet has proven to be a pleasure to work with, and she believes firmly enough in this film to already be working at a generously discounted rate. The strong commitment of talented people like Janet, coupled with your assistance can see this film to commercial success.
