Joy E. Reed is the creative force behind Oh, MY! Productions, LLC and has independently produced and directed a number of short films, including I'VE MET A WONDERFUL MAN, official selection of the 2006 Provincetown International (Massachusetts, USA), Filmstock Int’l (Luton, UK), and Wreck-Beach Int’l (Ontario, Canada) Film Festivals, and BOXED IN, who's successful festival run includes an official screening at the 2009 London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival.. She is currently producing/directing Men Coming Together: the tale of hot nude yoga, a feature length documentary about a community of gay men in New York City who practice naked yoga (currently in post-production). In June of 2009, she premiered OUTCOMES, LGBTQ stories from the Hudson Valley, a series of 5 documentary shorts drawn from interviews with an array LGBTQ people who have come out of the closet, putting a human face on a highly politicized subject; the subjects include Alix Dobkin, a lesbian musical pioneer and 1970s feminist icon; and Ron Nyswaner, screenwriter of the groundbreaking film Philadelphia and gay rights activist. Ms. Reed has studied film theory at Vassar College and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Performance from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She's also learning to play the banjo.
Congratulations Joy, you did it! Let the cutting begin.
It's been a great privilege to watch this story unfold. The questions and lessons at the core of this film have become an integral part of my personal vocabulary.
A fabulous project that opens up a world I would otherwise never see-- not only a hot nude yoga class, but a close-knit group of gay men, wrestling with their sprirituality.
Go Joy go!
Amazing how this project pushes buttons. Facebook just yanked the MCT page without any explanation. Was it the implication of nudity (there wasn't any on FB)? Is it because gay + nude must equal sex? Or was it because folks can't believe that nude yoga can be a path to spirituality? All the more reason I want to see this doc get out there!
