So, most interestingly, today I received a *second* copy of Human Contact, along with one set of the four booklets from the $50 level. Guys, if you keep that up (splitting up the various goodies) you'll end up spending hundreds of dollars in shipping costs alone to someone like me. I don't mind waiting - less than I mind seeing that $13,95 postage stamp on a package largely containing something you already sent out weeks ago.

Yeah. As much as I wanted to mail everything at once, I lack the logistical wherewithal to make that happen. I managed to run out of Shock:SSF due to a stocking error at just the wrong moment. They should be along next week.

Glad you like the look of it!

Woo! Got my copy as well. Very slick. Will additional items, like copies of Social Science Fiction, be mailed separately?

My copy arrived here in Trondheim, Norway today. Looks great, can't wait to get into it all. Very happy I contributed to this :)

So, I just got the "Info Needed!" email. I noticed that the ink to download the most current PDF (HumanContact1.0d2.pdf, right?) is on the info form's first page, BUT once you have filled out the form, there's no way to get back to that page. i was able to sort of hack the URL for the "d1" version to get "d2", but it's kind of confusing. Is there somewhere a backer can go to just download the official, Joshua-approved final PDF?

Hey, the guys I play Apocalypse World with said they've gotten their Quarantine - how do I get mine?

Bruce, you should head straight away over to http://story-games.com and see who's in your area! A lot of us types have weekly groups and then get together at little regional conventions every couple of months to stay up too late together.

When I was a teenager I went through a pretty heavy role playing game period, and my favourite was "Traveller". I really like the idea that someone has come along and updatded the basic concept into something pretty cerebral and dare I say it, adult? Now the real question is, where do we find other giant nerds...uh, I mean intellectual sophisticates to participate in this?

Thanks, Marshall! The rules work fundamentally the same way as the basic Shock: rules, with some punchy interpersonal stuff worked in. Because there's a built-in setting (in addition to the Colony creation rules), the Minutiæ work in an interlocking way that is often hard to achieve with the straight Shock: rules. And, because Minutiæ have an effect in a prescribed way (per the Shock: rules), the setting effectively becomes a rule system itself.

I really like Shock: Social Science fiction for the wild brainstorming, so you have my support. I just have to figure out how much I'll kick in. Congrats on the quick funding! I hope you can keep the rules light and the science crunchy.

Funding Successful

This project successfully raised its funding goal on November 6, 2010.

Pledge $10 or more Pledge $10 or more

93 Backers

At $10, you'll get a PDF of the final game before it's even at the presses! I'm not sure what the eventual price of the PDF will be, but it'll certainly be more than ten bucks. I'll also send unfinished versions out to Kickstarters as the book reaches certain milestones!

Pledge $25 or more Pledge $25 or more

25 Backers SOLD OUT (0 of 25 remaining)

If you pledge just $25, I'll send you a signed copy of the final game text along with the PDF for easy searching. The book alone will go for something like $30 when complete, so combined with the PDF, this is a damn good deal. Limited numbers!

Pledge $33 or more Pledge $33 or more

58 Backers

Print & PDF pre-order, plus developmental PDFs along the way, just like the $25 level, but at the street value, with free shipping. If there are still copies left at $25, do that one instead!

Pledge $50 or more Pledge $50 or more

21 Backers

If you pledge $50, I'll send you not only the PDF and a signed copy of the game, but also a set of four booklets to share with all your players, giving a brief explanation of the Academy and the galaxy that holds it.

Pledge $53 or more Pledge $53 or more

20 Backers

Shock:Bundle! The same as the $33 level, but with a copy of Shock:Social Science Fiction as well!

Pledge $70 or more Pledge $70 or more

6 Backers

Shock:Bundle, but with the four setting books from the $50 level!

Pledge $100 or more Pledge $100 or more

16 Backers

If you send me $100 or more, it means you really want Human Contact to happen. In appreciation, along with the goodies from the other giving levels, I'll send you a handmade Kodrek set, along with a ludological/anthropological paper describing the game, by MektehShr Phon, an anthropologist member of the Contactor Rn-Zjaphe, just returned from the remains of the Kotaht Archipelago. Kodrek is a board game, called the "Man's Game" in Kotaht. It is played for money in rowdy bars among men, whether they be male or female. The objective of the three-player game is to fling one of the other two Craft off the board, splitting the ante of the loser between them. It plays in as many rounds as you have coins to spend on, and a round takes fifteen or twenty minutes. Play it with pennies for fun, quarters for intensity, or Toleks for authenticity!
