About this project

Hello friends, family, fans and internet wanderers -

Bella Ruse is recording ten brand new songs for our first full-length album and we want you to be involved!

Our idea is to include a unique instrument in each track and name the track after that instrument. It'll go something like this:

The Melodica Song
The Typewriter Song
The Thumb Piano Song
The Kazoo Song
The Pots and Pans Song
The Bowed Guitar Song
and more! (we'll announce the full list in our exclusive video updates)

We'll choose the instruments BEFORE we write the songs, so we'll be writing each track around the instrument. This will get us out of our box, inspire us to create some fresh sounds and give you an album that's full of surprises.

Then, after we're done recording everything, we'll send our mixes to some of our musician friends who will re-imagine (or remix, but not like a Madonna club track, don't worry) the songs however they want and send them back. That means you'll get TWO albums: Our version of the songs and an album full of our friends' completely different versions of the same songs.

Some of our friends who have agreed to remix our songs:

Adam Grimm
Sam Brownson
Peter Jurmu
Tom Owens
Sean Huston
Ben Rivet
Joshua Wentz

We’ve charted our expenses and we need to raise 2000 dollars to hire musicians, complete the recordings, design artwork, and print the CDs. That’s where you come in. You’re here because you’ve supported us in the past and we’d love your continued support. But we don’t expect that support for nothing, of course!

So here’s how this works: We need to meet our funding goal by February 28th. If we don’t meet our goal, your pledges will be canceled and we’ll all go on with our lives. But if we do make our goal, we’ll work hard recording this album and you will get all kinds of cool stuff for supporting us.

We can only do this with your help. The more people that pledge, the better this album will look and sound. Check out the column to the right and sign up for one our pledge packages.

Thanks so much for your continued support!
Joseph and Kay

ABOUT US:

Back in February, we made our first recording: a six song EP. In April we played our first show at the historic Artists’ Quarter in the town of St. Paul, home of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion, and a large number of water fowl.

In June we packed up Kay’s station wagon and started a six week tour through the southwest, up the Pacific Coast Highway, over the Grand Tetons, and through the dangerously monotonous Kansas plains. We played 30 shows and met many wonderful people who said things like "My favorite music this year," (Shelby Miller, Shifted Sound) "Bella Ruse is definitely on to something," (Bethany Leavey, Ourstage.com) and "Worth picking out from the bunch," (Paul Rice, WTHS 89.9).

We've received a lot of encouraging feedback from you for our debut EP, and we're excited about recording a full length album!
