About this project

My name is Jim Shelp and I am a Guitarist and Teacher in the Motor City (Detroit, Michigan) area. I am working on a new eclectic CD of guitar instrumentals (electric, acoustic, and classical guitars being used). I’m simply looking for help in regards to duplication when completed.

Many songs are completed; However, I am still working on the following songs that reflect on the unique experience of Orchard Lake, Michigan: Apple Island, Indian Trail, and Lady of the Lakes.

In the video I am playing a new song I call “Magnum Opus X.” The opening melody (a signature of mine) as well as a few throughout the song I created back in the 80s. I was reflecting on my musical adventures from the many profound influences, from Bach to Juan Martin (Flamenco)...I was reflecting on the beauty and sometimes tragedies in life -- Like a prisoner walking to the gallows, meditating and putting things in perspective. The music I was trying to convey was something simple and clear, yet profound in nature. I am dedicating this song to my Mom who passed away in 2007 due to lung cancer.

My Name is Jim Shelp. I am from the Motor City area. I play electric, acoustic, and classical guitar. I cover all styles – even Hawaiian Slack Key guitar. In addition, I have performed in Europe as part of an outreach ministry. Moreover, I am a guitar teacher at a music school. I also teach Math and Science subjects at a private school, as well as oversee an after school guitar club. The guitar has been a big part of my life since I was a child. I have written an instruction book called “The Unbounded Guitar Series.” To me, the possibilities of the guitar are unbounded.
