Same here, I pledged $25. I didn't pledge for the items and I would have backed this regardless, but at least give us the decency of telling us if you are not going to going to deliver on your word. The part that really gets me is that you said multiple times, " Next week! I promise, next week!" and still nothing. Maybe they just got in over there head, but still, atleast tell us what is going on instead of just ignoring us.
      Thanks,

Mr. Scantling you have made something that I belive will have a profound impact and I only hope the distribution will be far and wide, best of luck with this film. I'm glad I could help out.

I am a former 1/5 Marine and am proud to see the First of the Fifth get some good treatment. You can't tell the right story until you spend time with the guys that are living it every day, and live it right along side them. Dave Scantling has done just that, and I think the integrity and clarity of his piece will be apparent.

I am backing this film to get more facts and honest ground-truth out to the world. Success stories don't build ratings for news agencies. I'm certain this film will show both good and bad - high points and low points. A closer factual look at a complex situation may open some minds and help people understand.

I am a backer of this film because it’s clear that David Scantling will tell the story of our military heroes in Afghanistan honestly, sensitively, without a political ax to grind, and from various points of view. I learned about the project from Josh and the Empty Pockets when the band performed their new song “Take Me” and mentioned that it would be part of the film Patrol Base Jaker. I can’t wait to see the film which I’m sure will be as beautiful and moving as the song.

I was there before 1/5 arrived when it was just the Brits. I was there when 1/5 arrived. And I was there when 1/5 destroyed the Taliban. I saw first hand what we had to do just to stay alive. I learned what it means to sacrifice everything for an idea. Now the whole world can watch it. That is why I backed this film.

I served in the USAF from '72 to '80 and spent two tours in Southeast Asia and Three years in Korea. Those who served understand what sacrifice for an ideal means but it is hard to communicate that to others. Film can help do this. "Twelve O'clock High" was an important movie, "The best Years of Our Lives" was an important move. The miniseries "Band of Brothers" is important. The list goes on...
I believe this can be an important movie too more because it is real and current and not hindered by popular bias. I'm proud to be a supporter.

I'm prior service USAF and served two OEF tours and one OIF tour. It is very important that the public see that success is possible and that not succeeding is not an option. It's great to see filmmakers such as David address this issue and show that the sacrifices of our troops are not in vain. So much of the mainstream media news is sensationalized for the sake of profits and so often misses the point. I'm proud to back this film and hope that other filmmakers follow David and begin to show the other side of the story.

I served in USMC from 1969-72 and my brother is a Navy surgeon with the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade @ Camp Leatherneck, Helmand Province, Afghanistan since April 2009. He's proud of 2 MEB and the sacrifices they've made to bring security and hopes for a better life to the local Afghans. He says that any doubts one may have about the current state of our country's19-20 year olds are immediately dispelled when you see these Marines in action. The honor, pride and traditions of the Marine Corps are as strong as ever. They could be working part-time at Starbucks but, instead, chose to challenge themselves to become U.S. Marines.

I just returned from Iraq in August and can tell you first hand, this is the only kind of honest reporting coming out of combat zones today. I met a few reporters while I was overseas and was disgusted. They seemed to have no pride in getting the story right, more concerned with snagging a headline and leaving ASAP. It's refreshing to see actual reporting still going on. Best of luck with the project, and I'm looking forward to seeing the film.

Our World opinion is shaped by the skewed view of the press. Our attitudes and interpretations are programed by the biases and political agendas of those we entrust as sources of information. As an American, I want my children to form their own opinions and beliefs of the world, its affairs, and our country. Only through experiencing civilian and military lives, personal or otherwise, will an understanding be met. I entrust this obligation to Mr. David Scantling and those like him. I am confident that his glimpse into the life, trials, and tribulations of these fine Marines will do just that. There is no public forum needed for debate, no petition to be signed, no statement to be made to the press. There is only the need for Americans to stand together, support each other, and bring to light the reality that all brave Marines, Soldiers, and Airman live each day. I am a proud father of four, a concerned citizen, an American, and soldier who thanks you for your undying commitment and unexhausting effots.

I am a backer of this film because I believe that Americans need to know what our troops are dealing with in these wars that politicians get us into from time to time. This particular war has been going on for too long and too many men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice. We need to be an informed people and understand what our people are dealing with in this hostile environment.

I am backing this project because I, too, agree that more Americans need to see what's really happening in Afghanistan. My brother-in-law just returned from the base, and is featured in this movie. Listening to his stories of their missons and activities over there, I realized just how little we know about what our soldiers are actually trying to acomplish in Afghanistan. It's not all fighting and battle, though that is part of it. He told us stories of helping the local farmers set up their market; helping to get schools re-opened; and spending time earning the trust of the local people and learning about their culture. I was fascinated listening to him, and I can't wait to see this film.

Thank you all for your service to our country, and thank you, David, for bringing a non-partisan honest look at what our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers are doing overseas!

I am backing Project Jaker because I think it is important for United States citizens to see some of the positive effects of this war. I believe that in general the reports that people see from the media contain primarily negative messages. I would like to see a renewed sense of American pride in our military and its soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen. I strongly believe that projects such as this one will help to accomplish that. As a Junior in Army ROTC I will commission and become active in less than a year and have a long history of service in my family and I hope that in the future I will be able to be just as proud of my service and the Americans who supported it as my great-grandfathers were of theirs in WW2.

My wife and I are contributing to honor our son's service at Patrol Base Jaker. With three years of college under his belt, he enlisted in the Marine Corps knowing he would likely end up in Iraq or Afghanistan. He was part of the major insertion of Marines into Helmand Province last July (the largest helicopter insertion of Marines since Vietnam) and was in the company assigned to Jaker. He survived a major "welcome-to-the-neighborhood" attack by the Taliban within 12 hours of arrival, endured long patrols in 110+ degree weather wearing 60-70 lbs. of gear, survived firefights and ambushes, and helped make it possible both for the Marine leadership to work with local leaders and for families to safely return to Nawa District. He saw what was essentially a dead area come back to life and witnessed the success of the strategy. We are proud of him and contribute out of gratitude for his and all the other Marines' service and sacrifice, for the excellent leadership of his NCOs and officers, and for his wonderful wife who knew her husband could become a casualty at any time to bullets or IEDs on the other side of the world.

As an OIF and OEF Air Force Security Forces service connected disabled Veteran I feel that I'm obligated to do anything and everything to support my Brothers and Sisters in arms. While reading about the project I was very encouraged to see that this documentary will put on display the employment of compassion and humanitarianism of our U.S. Marines to "win the hearts and minds" of people in a troubled and impoverished part of the world. Most writers focus in on the combat portion of war, but it's refreshing to see the actual work which is being completed after all of the regular news people and cameras move to another "if it bleeds it leads" location. I look forward to viewing the documentary.

Mr. Scantling, I wish you luck with your project. The telling of the work of 1/5 is surely a worthy endeavor. My wife karen and I have an intimate attachment to Geronimo. We're not far from Ccamp Pendleton and as such, we have had the honor of having many of these fine Americans in our home. Both of our sons are Marines. Our eldest, Sgt. Aaron (last name with held) is the Squad Leader of 2nd Squad, 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, of 1/5. Our youngest , Lcpl. Joel (last name with held) is a with a Loadmaster with a unit from the 1st Marine Air that will be deploying to Afghanistan shortly. We joyfully welcomed Aaron home 8 days before Christmas 09, joy tempered only by the loss of Sgt. Cahil, Lcpl. Hogan, Lcpl. Baker and Lcpl. Swanson . Thank you for this project, good luck. We look forward to seeing the finished product. To 1/5, Job well done, welcome home, Semper Fidelis.
