One Mans Vision ~
The Prehistoric Sculptures of Daniel McQuestion

From a young age, many of us are captivated by the amazing mystery of prehistoric life that we find preserved in fossils. One such man is Daniel McQuestion. He has adapted a technique that he invented for creating life size sculptures of birds out of metal, to use in the recreation of feathered dinosaurs.

After having sculpted birds representing over 250 life size species from six continents, it was a natural evolution for Daniel to take a creative leap back in time and apply his artistic genius to the creation of feathered dinosaurs. His newest sculpture is a life size re-creation of a feathered dinosaur named Deinonychus (pronounced / dye-NON-ə-kəs), which was just recently displayed in the main lobby of the Tucson Convention Center; for the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society’s annual world renowned Gem and Mineral Show.

Charles Spiller, staff writer of the Tucson Citizen says, “So real it looks alive! Is the best way to describe Dan McQuestion’s sculptures.” He also refers to Daniel in his recent article as having, “a talent few have in the world today.” Daniel’s talent and his sculptures are known internationally and his pieces are in museums and collections around the world, including the San Diego Natural History Museum, National Park Service and the private collection of a Saudi Arabian Prince.

He does extensive research on each species and bases his artistic recreation on the best available information at the time. As we all well know, when it comes to dinosaurs, theories change and new evidence if found all the time but it is his goal to be as accurate as possible. He has also built a Hesperornis elizabeth, a Troodon, Archaeopteryx, Caudypteryx, Jeholornis prima, Confuciusornis, and Sapeornis... all life size.

This collection of feathered dinosaur sculptures is in preparation for a project that he has been researching and planning for two years. It is his dream to build a dinosaur museum like no one has ever seen before. It will include many different species of feathered dinosaurs and terror birds from around the world in life like habitat recreations. Since his sculptures seam to appear as if they are alive this will be a great venue to educate children and adults about these prehistoric animals and their lives that we find written in stone.

Daniel is always open to contributions, investors or partners that would like to open a dinosaur venue in their area or have an exhibit installed in an existing museum. Dinosaur exhibits have raised attendance in many museums nationwide anywhere from 50% up to 600%. Given the popularity of dinosaurs it could be a successful, self sustaining endeavor near any metropolitan area in the world.

So much of the world of dinosaurs is written in a language that only the dedicated can interpret. Daniel McQuestion seeks to open that door to the masses; to give to the young and the old alike a picture of that magic world hidden in stone. In his dream everyday people can share in the mystery that is a world buried by time.
