About this project
For over several years, the 1619house has hosted 100+ drug/alcohol-free events. These living room shows range in attendance from 40-80 kids from show to show and have featured not only local acts, but also performers from across the US (signed & unsigned) and several from around the world (Canada, UK, Australia, France, Italy). All shows are donation-based ($1-5) to help with gas money for touring bands and/or for charities. The 1619house has organized successful benefits for Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, Books Through Bars, Sister Jean’s Kitchen, Invisible Children, PA Abolitionists, SERV (Service Empowering Rape Victims), and Food Not Bombs.
Over the years, the 1619house has been worn down by the steady flow of feet. With my own money I have replaced the floor in half the house, replaced the tub and toilet, a portion of the roof, and am trying my best to keep my house a home while allowing it to serve the South Jersey community. My goal is to raise money to help with important repairs in order for the 1619house to continue functioning as a community space. South Jersey lacks safe, all age, drug/alcohol free venues and it is my goal to keep my doors open so the local and non-local music/art/photography community can continue to share its talents, while inspiring one another.
These repairs include a section of the ceiling that was damaged during a badly unnoticed roof leak, a new floor for the other half of the house, two broken windows, a collapsed car port (damaged during this past winter's blizzards), and possibly a new septic system.
