Update #14: Pre-thread
Hi all.
Some of you should have received your rewards by now. I sure hope you dig them!
For those of you who pledged a little more for the custom pieces... It's taking me a little longer to get them finished. They are close but I still have to embroider them. I hope to have them shipped off this week. For those of you who pledged a lot more... I hope to have your originals created and shipped in the next few months. Thanks for your patience.
FYI - This should be my final post over here. Thanks again for your support! If you feel inspired to do so - you can keep up to date on my progress here. http://www.shannonrankin.blogspot.com/

Update #11: Goodbye Germany...
...Hello Maine!
I am home after a lovely 10 days in Düsseldorf, Germany. The time went by very quickly with a large installation to create, dinner parties, visits to K20 and K21, and daily walks through the city. What an incredible time I had! Thank you to everyone who made me feel so welcome and at home there. Attached are a wide variety of photos from my trip. Enjoy!
The view from the bridge I crossed everyday and other photos from my daily walks, the Goethe Museum, baby dog Joseph who generously helped me with my installation, my installation in progress and photos with Kirsten and Rüdiger Voss, the gallery with some works hanging, the opening reception, a celebratory glass of Prosecco with V and R, a trip to the wharf with K, one of the famous Frank Gehry buildings, the K21 where I saw work by Nam June Paik, Zilla Leutenegger, Juan Muñoz, Monika Sosnowska, Paloma Varga Weisz, Katharina Fritsch, Jeff Wall, Cindy Sherman, and many many others (I was also able to see the Bueys exhibition at K20 the day prior), a mini dance party with V, my trip home to Maine (not Pennsylvania, and not Canada - wink, wink).
So, now this means... In thanks for your support, I will be putting together all of your pledge rewards. You can look forward to receiving those around mid January, 2011. Over the next few weeks I will be in touch with all of you to gather your mailing addresses, etc. So stay tuned.
All the very best,
Shannon

I create installations, collages and sculptures that use the language of maps to explore the connections among geological and biological processes, patterns in nature, geometry and anatomy. Using a variety of distinct styles I intricately cut, score, wrinkle, layer, fold, paint and pin maps to produce revised versions that often become more like the terrains they represent. These new geographies explore notions of place, perception and experience, suggesting the potential for a broader landscape and inviting viewers to examine their relationships with each other and the world we share.
