About this project
As a photographer and former ballet dancer, I've long wanted to develop the right project to merge my two passions. Six months ago I decided to begin a dancer portrait series that would focus more on physical stillness and emotional movement than athleticism.
"Displaced" features an assortment of New York City's greatest dancers, some at the beginning of their stage careers and others who have transitioned to roles behind the scenes. It aims to explore the question of how intricately a dancer's identity is tied to movement.
I hope to raise $2,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund studio space, assistant fees, and printing costs, all of which will help bring this series to its full potential for a November 2011 gallery show at Dance New Amsterdam in New York City.
