Photographing the seasons of the Southern Appalachians
Nicholas Jensen Photography is based in Chattanooga, TN. My wife and I have lived in Tennessee for 10+ years and are continually in awe of the spectacular scenery and landscapes of the Southeast. I have always loved the outdoor world, and have found happiness and satisfaction in sharing this with others through my images. My desire is to create imagery that inspires and connects with the viewer on an emotional level. I am working hard to build my business, expand my reach beyond local recognition, and make photography my full time career.
My goal with this project is to make great images of all areas of the Southern Appalachian region, in all seasons. This includes the areas of East Tennessee, North Georgia, North & South Carolina, and Southwest Virginia. Well-known locations in this area are Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Cherohala Skyway, the Ocoee River basin (site of the 1996 Olympic Whitewater events), and National Forest & Wilderness areas. Also included are famous hiking trails such as the Appalachian Trail, Mountains to Sea Trail, and the Benton Mackaye Trail. The southeast is known as the most ecologically diverse region in the U.S. and represents the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River, as well as some of the few remaining old growth forests of the east. I plan to spend this year photographing all areas of the region throughout the seasons and compiling these images into a book and a 2013 calendar. It is my intention to extend this project into future years as well.
Needs & Rewards for Giving
This project is already underway, and your help with funding is essential to the successful completion of this endeavor. Traveling, hiking, inclement weather, and long hours at any given time of day or night are necessary to the pursuit of great photography. Your donations will provide fuel, funds for entrance and permit fees, and cover the initial costs of self-publishing and printing my book and calendars. I am grateful for the support and dedication of photography enthusiasts and as a show of thanks for your financial support, donors will receive email project status updates and gifts according to the level of giving. I am currently building relationships with more retailers throughout the region and continuing to develop my online potential. Your donations can make the difference in turning my passion and my young business into a full-time career.
