Good October is the story of an aging farmer struggling--financially, emotionally, and physically--to keep his farm afloat.

Mr. Hersch is a lonely, aging farmer in Ohio struggling to compete with larger corporate farms dominating the local and national market. For his life to have purpose, he knows he must keep his farm independent and to continue to work the fields until, or after, it is physically and financially impossible.

His neighbors and only human acquaintances, the Amish Mr. Yoder and his young boy, come around to help Mr. Hersch with the day-to-day. A childless widower in the twilight of his life, Mr. Hersch envies Mr. Yoder's health, happiness, and family.

His old dog, Cody, is his one true friend. Throughout the film, Cody's health declines. Helpless and broke, Mr. Hersch is not sure what to do to remedy her illness. She eventually collapses and dies while Mr. Hersch works the field. Too weak to dig a hole for his dead dog, Mr. Hersch, in a fit of frustration, decides to burn her body.

Unsure of what happens after death and sure he cannot survive the idle life of the retired, the heartbroken Mr. Hersch decides the next day to keep working the farm. We leave him going about the same chores he has done every day of his entire life and will continue to do for the rest of it.

WHAT WE ARE SHOOTING WITH:
I would love to shoot film, but that gets expensive for a little movie like this. If we reach our funding goal, we will be shooting on the ARRI ALEXA with Zeiss Primes and it's going to look just amazing.
WHERE WE ARE SHOOTING:
Amish Country, Ohio. My parents live in a picturesque place called Jeromesville, Ohio. My dad and I have been scouting locations and talking to locals. The farmers we talked to are very enthused by the project and have granted us permission to shoot on their farms. An Amish friend down to the road is willing to let us use his HORSE AND BUGGY and train the Actor playing Mr. Yoder to drive it. It will be super authentic and just awesome.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES:
Making a movie isn't too cheap. We are trying to hire a known actor to a.) Grab the attention of festival programmers and b.) Have a pro handling the subtle emoting of our quiet protagonist.
We have also have to:
-Rent Gear (We are obviously open to discount/donations: Equipment and Expendables)
-Pay the Talented Crew (You have to pay people. Have to.)
-Pay the Talented Actors
-Feed Everyone
-Make a Fake Dog to Set on Fire (Don't fret! NO animals will be harmed, or even consumed for food, during the making of this film)
-Hire a Dog Handler (We seriously care about the health and treatment of the fuzziest member of the cast)
-Get New York Professionals to Ohio and House them comfortably
-Submit to Festivals (Which gets costly! :( )
Thanks loads for checking this out! Please donate and tell every single person you've ever met.
