A self-published anthology of three short comics by Maya Kern.
"Hearts, Thorns, and Scales" will be a roughly 48-page volume containing three full color, painted comics. The comics (The Little Robot Girl, Fairyfail, and How to Be a Mermaid) can be found on my website. Each of these stories stem from fairytales without confining them to the constriction of that particular genre. They are stories of love - both romantic and not - and they all couple lightness and hope with a tinge of the dark and unexpected.
The initial goal of $1500 will result in 100 printed copies of "Hearts, Thorns, and Scales."

$9000 = additional content added to book
Rewards
The rewards for this project include digital and physical copies of the book itself as well as promotional postcards and buttons, and mp3 of an original song created for this project, and marker commissions. If the initial goal is exceeded, all additional funding will go towards increasing the print run, adding new rewards, and increasing the content/page count.

Once the project is completed, I will contact the printer I have chosen and make the order for the comic. The largest challenge for me will be working with the printer (which I have not done before). To make sure that everything is executed perfectly, I will sample as many test copies as it takes to make this project to my expectations. The other major challenge for me will be completing all reward art in a timely fashion. However, I am confident in my ability to draw quickly and well and to manage my time appropriately.
