The Inspiration – Dating In The Modern World:

Dating fascinates me. I have many friends active in the Dating World. I, too, am passionate about finding a life partner not only through the traditional ways of dating but also virtually online. As bizarre as it may seem, there is a beauty in the art form of uncovering a soul mate. If you feel as I do or have a voyeuristic curiosity into this social lifestyle, please support my cause to share the splendor and trials of discovering love in the digital age. I encourage you to back this campaign so our community can witness the positives of courting.

I have found that with the challenges of everyday life and weaving through the obstacles of a defiant economy, dating is really demanding. First off, we must fight our inner-self mentally, chisel ourselves physically and test our strengths socially to meet people today. Good or bad, dating has been somewhat simplified yet more trying because of technological advancements online. In fact, it takes enormous efforts these days to make it past the filters of online dating profiles, text messages, hear-say and chance-meetings – to get to the point where we actually listen to one another and learn what we’re all about.

I say, “enough!”

My name is Leah Devora and I am setting up a multimedia art and sound installation called "Voices - Dating in the Modern World". For almost a decade and a half, I’ve had this concept brewing in my head where I will expose the raw truths of online dating through the recorded voices of actual digital daters. I have been recording men and women speaking about what they are looking for in a partner, their deal breakers, must haves, their wants and desires. With your help, I want to create an art experience for people to actually hear what each other is saying about and to us. Our society is losing our ability to listen. I want our culture to feel what I am observing.

Art & Social Experiment
This project is not only an art piece, but it will also be a social experiment; where participating daters and observing bystanders will have a greater understanding of our lack of communication with one another. My goal of this art installation is to develop public discussions with our community as to how our communication skills have either enhanced or deteriorated from our civilization using the web. The sounds and displays of the piece will definitely lead to men and women freely exchanging conversations about dating that eventually lead into a community sex dialogue.

In order for this campaign to be successful:
The art installation is very expensive and I will need a lot of resources to make it happen. The funds for this campaign will used for:
1) 6 to 8 used Mac computers are needed to run the interactive visuals of the event ($5K to $7K),
2) Studio rental space for about a month ($2K to $6K),
3) Salary for the crew and curators ($2K to $5K).

I am offering great rewards to our backers and know this is a full “win-win”. The more funds we can raise, the better experience we can give our community.

There are several reasons why this piece is important to the community.

1) Our community needs to re-learn how to communicate and listen to each other in order to re-understand one another. This installation will help start the discussion about communication.
2) Our community needs to re-evaluate how to enjoy what we say and how we say it. This installation will help us find the pleasure with listening again.
3) Even though the art show will have a temporary run, I want to make sure this show can help provide some income to struggling community members by employing them during the installation.
