About this project

The Pirates of Penzance. Such a traditionally weird show.  Fredrick is brought into service of a group of Pirates after his geriatric hard of hearing Nurse Maid misunderstands his father's desire for him to become a "Pilot" (see What Gilbert and Sullivan did there?). And as he is indentured to his 21st birthday he leaves the pirate band to potentially marry the old woman who raised him. When he discovers younger women, he banishes the old. A bunch of policemen show up, and Fredrick is brought into the pirate fold again because he was born on a leap year and he's actually not 21, he's only five. BIZARRE.

STAGEright Theatre's Production of The Pirates of Penzance, being lead by Artistic Director Brendan Mack, is taking this bizarre story to a new extreme. Casting the show traditionally performed with a group of 30 to 40 chorus members with only 11 is a big first step. Having them play every role in the show, including roles of instrumentalists is another big one. And from there the production spirals into contemporary hipster indie music heaven, taking an indie spin on the material while preserving its integrity.

What we have and what we need. The cast is assembled, the production opens October 21st, we have a space, and we have Seattle's best Music Director Paul Linnes on board driving the ship. What we need is money for the remaining production costs of the show. Costumes, props, set pieces, shipping of beautiful dresses designed by Connie Rowe from New York to Seattle and back, t-shirt printing and a case of Yoo Hoo.

We are a company that has lived within its means for two-and-a-half years, and we are just aching to spread our wings with this ambitious production to provide the best theatre experience yet to come from STAGEright. Our goal is $1,500.

STAGEright was founded in 2009 with the intent to provide a high-quality, artistically driven experience for a wide community, and not simply the theatre elite. We are continuing to choose productions that have wide appeal to build non-theatre goers into consistent audience members after seeing a kick-ass show with us.
