Hi, I’m Kip Omolade. My project involves using art to create a celebrity.

I am interested in art’s power. Can oil paintings duplicate reality TV, YouTube and other forms of media in creating a famous person? Can art play a more dominant role in our culture? Can art use celebrity to talk about deeper issues such as spirituality, gender roles, identity, etc. in pop culture?

These questions and more are addressed in The Diovadiova* Project. The Diovadiova Project uses art as a star-making machine to create a celebrity. Since 2005, I’ve created over 100 paintings and drawings of a single model. With involvement in the art system, my muse will gain recognition in the art community and in popular culture. This use of a “celebrity muse” critiques our celebrity-obsessed culture while exploring art’s power in the world.

I’m putting together an art show in the heart of NYC’s art world scheduled for October 2012. I found a gallery space to rent in Chelsea, NYC near the newly remodeled “High Line” and with your help the show will be amazing!

Your funding on Kickstarter for The Diovadiova Project will go towards framing and shipping paintings, renting gallery space, promotion, etc. If we go beyond the financial goal, I will be able to increase space and time usage in the gallery and thus include more work and exposure.

(*Diovadiova (pronounced “dee-oh-vah-dee-oh-vah”) is composed of the Italian word for god (dio) and the Greek word for goddess (diva).)
