What is this?

We are creating a trailer for a movie that's not yet made. This promo will be used to stoke interest in production of the full feature. At this point in the process, however, this IS the project and we're approaching it as a short film and work of art in its own right.

How will the funds be used?

The money we raise will go towards physical production. We plan to shoot for a couple of weeks in August and want to pay our collaborators something (certainly not what they're worth - but we also don't expect anyone to work for free). It will also cover equipment rental, props, costumes and all the usual production expenses - albeit at a microbudget level.

Any funds raised above and beyond our goal will go to make post production efforts like visual effects, titles and music licensing even more kick ass.

Who are these people?

Butz & Hemo are a band. At least in the Merry Prankster sense of the word. That is to say we have a sound. We've honed a proprietary voice with influences as diverse as early Wim Wenders, the philosophy of Alan Watts and ear-splitting pilgrimages to the front row when New Order, Ride and My Bloody Valentine held communion.

So what's it about?

MY PSYCHEDELIC SUMMER is about searching for more in an age of ever expanding less.

It's about one Guy's dizzying first contact with The Big Mystery. You know, the one beyond all categories of thought? It's how it really was - how it really felt - to go spelunking deep inside that zeal. Often too deep. Occasionally way too deep - and live to tell the tale.

One part Apatow Stoner Comedy - one part Aronofsky Mind Warp, it's a memoir of our film school years, overexposed and blown out.

Armed with a hand-cranked Bolex threaded with unlimited imagination, a suburban shaman sets off to record his profound experiences "above the ceiling."

If flickering movie screens are the new campfires around which we gather for stories to guide us - then our intrepid film geek is determined to craft a fresh mythology that will heal his tribe and bring the world back into balance.

He is 19 after all.

And did we mention it takes place in 1991?

All set to the baggy beats of a Madchester dance party, it's the classic Dionysian opera - sex, drugs and rock and roll - but really kinda different. The campus drug culture, music and fashion of the early 90's were a direct echo of the late 60's. The big revolution had come and gone but don't tell that to our crew of renaissance stoners who venture to the very edge in a perilous mission to glimpse the grand tapestry of existence.

MY PSYCHEDELIC SUMMER is an early reel ripped from the motion picture of our lives - one that's only now coming into focus some twenty-odd years later. We have a sneaking suspicion you may have a reel like this too - tucked away in a vault with the other deleted scenes that got axed when the studio took it all away.
