Home.  Family.  A sense of place.  These are the things that keep resurfacing as defining themes in my life.  Where you come from, who is there with you, and the way those people and that place interact with one another will color the way you see the world (for better or for worse).  I've been attempting to better appreciate those things, the simple things.  The songs on Our Roots Run Deep are reflections of my place and the people who occupy it with me.

I've been working on this collection of instrumental songs for most of this year, writing and recording in breaks between teaching music students.  After the great response I received to the Christmas EP that I put out last year (Light of Light Eternal), I decided that it was finally time to record my own tunes and share them with you.  

I've basically been able to record the whole album for free, but as the recording process nears its end, I'll actually have to spend some money to get this thing out into the world. That's where you and Kickstarter enter the picture. Over on the right side of this page, there are several options for pre-ordering Our Roots Run Deep. Your pledges will cover the costs of getting the album mastered, artwork designed/printed, and CDs duplicated/packaged (and hopefully a few other promotional ideas for the album). Each pledge level has its own set of rewards, so peruse them at your leisure and choose which one you'd enjoy the most!

One thing to note about Kickstarter is that funding is all or nothing, so if I don't reach my project goal by the end of the campaign, I don't get anything and your pledges are not taken. For that reason, my project goal is actually a little lower than what I'd like to spend on finishing this album ($800-1000). Anything pledged over my project goal will go to making this album sweeter and getting more people to hear about it.

I've often wondered if the music I make really matters, but I've been reminded lately that it does. Songs and art and stories all matter. When we look at the world around us and the heavens above us, we see a reflection of the Creator. In the same way, when we engage with others' creative expressions, we catch a glimpse of who they are, and in that, we see a little bit of ourselves. C.S. Lewis said, "We read to know we are not alone." I think we listen to music for the same reason. So, Our Roots Run Deep comes from that place. It's a reflection of my life, my home, my family. I hope you can see a little bit of yourself in it too.
