How do you speak to your true love when you’ve never spoken? Especially when she’s dead? Checkers has no idea, but words are coming out

Hey. Thanks for watching. As you have probably determined on your own, this is a Kickstarter for a 2011 Philadelphia Fringe production, a one-man show about a servant from an absurdist fairytale called Ivona, Princess of Burgundia. It's happening at the Fleisher Art Memorial Sanctuary in South Philadelphia. For more on the story and the production, read our press release. More on that in update #2!
Here are a few words Checkers wrote for this page:
I have something I need to say, um, about someone I love, and, and you know how it is when you need to say something, you just, you just have to say it, have to let the words out, have to spill all the guts or you won't be able to tell what you're eating, what's making you sick... You know?
So... If you, if you could put some of your good money that you earned doing the good work you do towards, well, towards paying for the rent of the beautiful decaying space we're going to be in, paying for my checkered livery, paying for the sound equipment, the furniture, the props, the administrative fees you have to pay when you produce things in the Fringe, the marketing, all the bits and bobs that come up that you can't anticipate... you know, if you could add some additional support to THOSE things, well, then those things will be able to tell the story.
I, I'll be there regardless. But naked in the dark alone with no one to listen to me is how things've always been. I'd like for something to be different this time.
Now from Mark:
Checkers represents my emergence to the Philadelphia community as an artist. I've worked in the theatre community as an apprentice, an assistant, an administrator, and a crew member, but this is my first opportunity to make something of my own, which involves me directly as an artist. This play is about finding your voice, finding yourself, and I'm happy both Checkers and I get the opportunity to do so.
It has been a disproportionately incredible experience so far. Checkers had a workshop production in June 2011 with the SoLow Festival, and its development could not have happened without it.
You have a direct impact on the storytelling of this production. Anything you have to support us I deeply appreciate.
