HYDRA DICE - NECRON (SKULLS)

Update #6 · Jun 25, 2012 · comment

Since the attempt at getting funding for large scale production failed, I'm now starting over with small scale production. What that means is I'm going to offer one type of dice at a time, and instead of having them made in a factory somewhere in China, they're going to be made locally, hand cast in resin in custom colors. This should reduce the set-up costs considerably, but it will still require high quality 3D printing for the positives for the molds. The first set will be the dice with the skulls on them, and the success or failure of the first set may influence whether or not many of the other designs are produced.

If you wanted to help get this project started before, I invite you to check out the new project which has much more realistic goals. Check it out here on Kickstarter:

5 Days to Go

Update #5 · May 31, 2012 · 12 comments

Well, there's less than a week left, and we're far from the projected goal.

However, this was only my first attempt at a Kickstarter project. In the process I've learned a lot, and I'm almost ready to start over with new goals and new methods.

One thing I learned along the way is that I don't have to tool for all 23 sets of dice at once. I can be less ambitious and start with just one set, and make that the first project. Then my financial goal will be smaller, and I'll be more likely to reach it.

Something else I learned is the value of advertising. I didn't use any paid advertising for this project at all. I've since learned that many Kickstarter projects have reached their goals through targeted online advertising. That said, I'll probably try to generate some money for advertising for the next attempt.

Since my next effort won't be to make the entire product line at once, I'm planning to poll the current backers to find out which dice they most wanted out of the few I offered images of, and the next project will focus only on those. That means fewer prototypes, positives, and molds to make up front.

Thanks to everyone who has given me such valuable information and advice. It's my intention to persevere and see to it that everyone who wants these dice will have them in their hands as soon as possible.

Update #2 · May 16, 2012 · comment

I just got a new quote from one of my partner companies who will be making the prototypes, and although there are a couple of issues with one set, the quote looks good! Progress is happening fast! Now all I have to do is come up with the money, and we'll have some beautiful dice in our hot hands!

More news soon...!
