Annie's Yogurt Pedaler connects yogurt-making to local dairy farms and their communities, getting people together on the street and in their kitchens
Thanks to everyone who has backed the Yogurt Pedaler so far! Any funds raised over $2000 will go toward properly outfitting my bike trailer to reliably carry my supplies through the hills of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Check out my Yogurt Pedaler website for updates on project development.
The Yogurt Pedaler is a cultured dairy machine, traveling by bike through dairy farms and towns in the American Midwest.
It’s about getting people out on the streets to make their communities alive and exciting. It’s about establishing sustainable connections between farmers and their communities. It’s about spreading the delicious and magical culture of yogurt-making in America’s dairy heartland.
Traveling through Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio by bicycle, and pulling a cart behind me, I will meet local dairy farmers, take their milk to nearby towns, schools, and summer camps, and demonstrate how to make yogurt. I am a documentary photographer, in addition to being a bike mechanic and yogurt-maker, so the project will be well-photographed.
With your help, I will transform my current “Culture Caravan” into a bike-drawn cart capable of long distance travel and hauling yogurt-making supplies as well as teaching materials and camping gear. I’ll then ride between farms and communities on a route through the eastern Midwest and make yogurt. For those I meet with good timing, they’ll get to see the process in action. Most of yogurt-making requires blind patience, however, so I’ll develop teaching materials to explain the process and the farms I’ve visited along the way for all of that time when the yogurt is incubating or staying nice and cold in the cooler. Funds raised will help cover costs of construction, yogurt-making supplies (including the challenge of 10-hour heated incubation), and development of education materials.
The Yogurt Pedaler website is alive and well, and it will kick into gear as my departure approaches.
