About this project
In this project, Begin with Love is using the power of art to inform, mirror, inspire and inquire in order to awaken and engender deeper levels of compassion and imaginative solutions to homelessness in our community. It is a bold initiative that will challenge the traditional charitable giving concepts. Our plan is to design and build a multimedia, interactive art installation that will be launched in the pre-holiday season and gifted to the City for the duration of the holidays. The exhibit will be designed and produced exclusively by participants from the unhoused community. This group has enthusiastically embraced the idea and have already named the project … “Begin With Love”.

The BEGIN WITH LOVE Picture project is an initiative of the Downtown Streets Team of Palo Alto to raise awareness about homelessness in our community. The current aim of this multimedia project is to launch a large scale photographic exhibit, created completely by the homeless community, to be placed on public display during the 2011 holiday season and beyond. The exhibit will express moments that reflect not only the serious nature of what is experienced by homelessness, but also the beauty of what we see, like loving actions, giving, and smiles where there were none before. It will also reflect comedic moments, touching moments, and compassion. We are hoping that this project will inspire & motivate others to embrace the unhoused citizens of our community. The unhoused citizens will bring to this project their dignity & courage, and volunteers will display their compassion & generosity.
