About this project
In 2009 I started a website that highlights people, places, news and events in and around Crestwood North and Woodlawn, two neighborhoods that share the 35212 zip code in Birmingham, Alabama. Now I'd like to create three issues of a print newsletter for this area.
Each issue will include announcements from neighborhood organizations and information about upcoming events. Readers will be able to submit photos, art, poetry or other family friendly content. Those who want to receive a newsletter in the mail will be able to sign up online or at the Woodlawn Branch of the Birmingham Public Library. Newsletters will also be available at local shops, community centers and neighborhood association meetings. In addition, a PDF version of each newsletter will be posted online at www.the35212.com.
Every penny contributed through Kickstarter will be used to pay the design, print and distribution expenses for 500 copies of the July/August, September/October and November/December newsletters. If the project goal is exceeded, additional newsletters will be printed and distributed.

I'm a wife, mama, friend, daughter and neighbor with a passion for community development, the arts and social justice. I spend a lot of my time caring for my family, having conversations, walking my dog and sitting on my front porch. I believe life is story. And I'm living proof that art, music and dance can help make everything better. I write about my neighborhood and my city at the35212.com, and I volunteer with Desert Island Supply Co., a creative writing nonprofit based in Woodlawn.
