About this project

New Zealand is a Rugby mad country and I, David de Lautour, am a sports mad kiwi (New Zealander) living in Los Angeles. This year New Zealand is playing host to 19 other nations from around the globe for the Rugby World Cup . . . and I will be there.

After developing a passion and love for American sports I can't understand why the reverse doesn't happen. Why aren't Americans in love with the game I am so passionate about. America is ranked 17th in the world in Rugby, that's better than their Soccer ranking. They'll be playing in the RWC and yet, no one seems to know or care . . . or do they? I mean, come on, America is the most successful Rugby nation in the Olympics! (check out that very odd but true stat here)

Before I go I want to find out what Americans know about Rugby. How many players on the team? How long are the games? Can you name 1 rugby player? From any team!? After the interviews I will travel down to New Zealand with my loyal mate, former BSU kicker and current cameraman extraordinaire Michael Langford, to find some American Rugby fans who have made the same pilgrimage. Why did they come? Why do they care? And why don't many people share their passion back stateside?

Along with chatting to the Americans in NZ we will try to capture the pride and the passion of all nations represented as well as the amazing story of the greatest Rugby franchise ever to the play the game, the mighty New Zealand All Blacks. Favored to win every World Cup since its inception in 1987 they have only done it once. This time, back on home soil and favorites again and with professional rugby going global, it's now or never!

This will be an amazing journey and an incredible story no matter who wins the tournament. I know the documentary will inspire and open the world's eyes to these amazing athletes and beautiful sport.

The money raised here will be used in a variety of ways. For equipment used to shoot the footage. To help discount the airfare of the crew traveling down to shoot. And mainly for the post production costs.

Please note: NONE of this money will go towards travel for David. This is not about getting him down to the tournament it is about bringing the story back.
