Hellooooo! My name is Danielle O'Malley, and I am creating a storybook installation, about the strange magic that emerges, after midnight, in an imaginary, sleepy little mountain town. The exhibition will be held at the Long Island Children's Museum. After the exhibition, I will teach an art class with the children, where we will talk about places we love in our neighborhood, and then we will build a cardboard city, all from recycled materials. 

THE INSTALLATION:

The installation will hang along a wall. There will be a mural painted on the wall, for the background of the piece, of mountains, trees, roads and animals. There will be paper sculptures of witch doctors, crystal balls, dark caves, magic bakeries, sweet mama and honey babe houses, forgotten forests, and folklore galore. Surrounding each paper sculpture will be a folkloric story about the piece, painted on the wall. Stories of tin can love spells, secret cargo of witch trains, forgotten lands in crystal balls, and more! At the beginning of the installation, there will be several creatures made of fabric, Velcro-ed to the wall, so the children can move these creatures through the installation and interact with it, while they read the stories.

After the show is installed, I will teach an art class with the children. We will have a short discussion on places that we love in our neighborhoods, such as grocery stores, parks, fire stations, ect. We will then create a neighborhood out of cardboard boxes and other various recycled materials. The houses will already be built, so the children will just decorate the cardboard buildings to represent a place they love in their neighborhood. 

I need funds for materials (paints, papers, ect.), airfare to new york city, and shipping the project.
