About this project

Blending everything from old world folk to new world pop, Dead Cinema, a musical group from the recent future based in Portland, OR, announces its first release Portmanteau on August 31. Vaudevillian performances of beautifully arranged dirges with lyrics from the notebooks of the modern truant create the telltale paranoid aesthetic of Portmanteau and form the soundtrack to a surrealist epic in the listener’s mind. But rather than hearing about it, just hear it here—

If you like it, contribute 5 dollars or more and you can own that album and put money towards the recording and releasing of the new album which might be called Change the Subject. Dead Cinema is planning to press a limited edition vinyl record of this one, since financial troubles limited the first album to being released as a download and on CD.

“Dead Cinema's natural delinquent chemistry is something that is missing from most rock bands these days. They are a breath of fresh chloroform to the fashion based ‘indie’ bands that are plaguing the world today.”
–Dave Abramson, Diminished Men

"More dark madness than goth, Dead Cinema’s show will spook you and their upcoming album, Portmanteau will get you singing their haunted melodies in no time."
–Gabriel Arguelles, Seattleshowgal.com

"A vision to my ears... music for the eyes... you'll love it if you have that slightest bit of your imagination still itching to burst out.”
–DRK, Pork Records

“Ghostie vaudevillian mad-man music. Just my style…”
–Charlotte Treuse, Rose City Shimmy

“The thinking man’s Laurie Andersen.”
–Lou Read

Portmanteau was recorded and mixed by Dead Cinema in Portland, OR. The personnel includes Jason Breeden (Susurrus Station), Sara Dyberg (Pikara), Gib Edleman, Paul Burnum, Kurt Olson, and several special guest appearances. The band will be playing the supranatural Pacific Northwest in August and September to promote Portmanteau.
