"Tradition of Excellence" is a feature-length documentary film centered on the Arcadia High School Apache Marching Band and Color Guard and their 2011-2012 season. This film also chronicles the 60-year history of the band program since it was established in 1952.

SOME BACKGROUND INFO

This project was first conceived back in the Fall of 2011 with the original intent of gathering and creating an anthology of recordings from throughout the band's history. From there it has evolved into a full fledged documentary film aimed at providing an intimate look at the inner workings and legacy of the Apache Marching Band.

In the 5 months we have documented, we have collected over 1000 hours of footage between rehearsals and performance days, and over 30 interviews from students, staff, and alumni alike. We are still in the middle of completing interviews with still many more to go!

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?

As you may know, producing a project of this size is no easy feat and has many costs involved, including equipment, paying crew, and gas among many others. Your generous contributions will help to pay off many of these costs which have thus far been financed with the use of credit cards.

As mentioned in the video, there is a vast historical archives of film reels from past competitions that has been kept by the program, including recordings of the Long Beach All-Western Band Review, to past trips down Colorado Blvd. at Tournament of Roses Parade from decades ago. Much of this footage we has never been seen outside of the time from which it was taken and unfortunately, many of these film reels have deteriorated over years of wear. a large part of the funds received will go to the expensive process of restoring and converting these film reels to digital format to be incorporated in the documentary so we can truly capture the "Tradition of Excellence". 

Our goal is to have the final DVD be a product that's as polished and professionally made as possible, created with the highest quality so that it will last for generations to come. We want this to be something that will be treasured by not only current students of the band, but also by all the thousand of alumni who have come before and laid the foundations of the program, making it what is it today.

We plan to submit and take this documentary nationwide to festivals across the country and abroad and the funds we receive will help to assist with the submission costs, which are sometimes exorbitantly high.  We believe "Tradition of Excellence" is a film that transcends beyond the Arcadia band program itself, or even music as a whole, and anyone who has worked as part of a group or team will be able to relate to the story and message of this film. It's a story about teamwork, growth, and achievement that demonstrates how when a group of people work together with one mind and purpose, something amazing can happen. With your support, we will be able to make this film a reality and hopefully, create something memorable and lasting.
