The time has finally come for Scarlet Virginia to make a full length album, and you can help make it happen!

Scarlet Virginia is a four piece folk rock band based in Raleigh, NC
that plays songs of magic, darkness, and fairy tales. Songwriter
and multi-instrumentalist Lindsey Collins comes from a background of Celtic and folk, while violinist Katharine Liang comes from classical, bassist Ben Halliday from alternative rock, and drummer and percussionist JP Ferrell is an audio engineering student at Living Arts College. The result of this mixture is an organic and diverse acoustic based collection of tunes that are both inspiring and haunting.

Scarlet Virginia is finally making a full length album! We will be paying for the majority of this recording out of our own pockets, but making a quality album is expensive, and your help will assure that we make the best project possible.

This past July Katharine, Ben, JP, and I went into Desolation Row to record a single, Zombie Boyfriend. We wanted to have one song fully recorded, mixed, and mastered to give everyone a good idea of what this album is going to sound like.

We're going to give every song on the album the exact same treatment that Zombie Boyfriend got. And that means... breaking the songs down at JP's home studio and experimenting and building on the song with anything it takes to bring it to it's full potential. We're talking strings, horns, the real deal. No limitations (but still being realistic... I don't think we'd be able to get Colin Meloy to make an appearance on the album). And then we'll take the demos to Desolation Row where we'll re-track everything and mix it with Greg Elkins. After it's mixed it will get mastered and printed, with a design by our very own extremely talented Ben Halliday (he also did the artwork for the Zombie Boyfriend single and the By Lamplight EP).

Katharine, Ben, JP, and I want to give everyone who contributes to this project the chance to come along for the journey of making this album. We want you to experience it with us. So we'll be posting frequent video blogs of this adventure, from experimenting at JP's with the demos to making the finished product at Desolation Row. We've already started work on the demos! So just after this Kickstarter launches we will be posting updates! And they will be often!

We've already begun work on this album, so anyone backing this project can be assured that it will be finished. To hear the quality of how the album will sound, listen to "Zombie Boyfriend". We wanted to release a single so that everyone could get an idea of how the rest of the album would sound. And since we are recording the other songs the same as the single (working on the demos first at JP's home studio, then recording the final versions at Desolation Row), you can be assured that the quality will be every bit as good.

April 2013 is our estimated release for the album. There is a chance is may be a bit later, and it could even be earlier. If it does take longer, it is because the project needs more time to be exactly what we want. We are pretty confident at this point that it will be ready at least by April, but so you can always know where we are in the process, we will be posting regular blog and video updates on our progress.
