Postcard travel guides handcrafted & sent out with specific travel tips to each recipient about what they wanted me to explore for them

I’m doing a postcard travel guide where YOU take the lead. You tell me what you want to see and do and I report back to you in the form of a handcrafted postcard. Postcard will be made on the road and delivered to you with personalized travel tips. In the end the postcards will be compiled into a travel guide style book that was created from what people like you wanted to know more about.

If I had to narrow it down to 2 things that I'm truly passionate about it would be travel and photography.

Every time I go on one of my adventures I return to people telling me how they are living vicariously through me. The fact that I take so many photos while I'm on the road and find so many offbeat things to do keeps me constantly sharing photos with friends and hopefully inspiring those vicarious travelers to get out there and explore on their own.

I started a blog called The Drifting Deltiologist to keep family and friends more in a neat and clean visual loop of the things that I see and do while I'm on the road. On my last trip to Olympic National Park as we were setting up our tents one of my travel buddies said to me

"I'm going to hire you to plan all of my trips for me"

This got me thinking, what was it about my trip planning that people I knew attached onto?

The thing that it really boils down to is the fact that I research and plan A LOT! Almost to a fault, almost to the point where people get sick of physically traveling with me.

If I'm going somewhere I want to know everything unique, amazing, special, and quirky about the area so I don't miss the really cool parts and only catch the boring stuff.

The world is so dang big and life is too darn short, I want to get as much packed into my life as possible.

So this is where this project comes into play.

I think postcards are intriguing. The images that are used to depict and area are usually generic and comical. It's the messages that people write on the back that make postcards unique and special.

I want to make postcards from my trips to send to those vicarious travelers, to those people who want me to "plan all of their trips for them", to those people who maybe just want to see what interesting things I can find in a new little corner of the world.

I want to know what YOU want to see and plan my trip around that.

Here's how this will work:

You send me a simple phrase, word, or category of travel (ex. camping, music scene, local food, adventure travel)

I take a photo and make that into a postcard image and print it out while on the road.

On the back I write a personalized travel tip about what you wanted to see.

I send it to you while on the road and you get it in just a few short days.

I'm more then excited to create these images and share what I find on the road, traveling is just a big treasure hunt for me and I can't wait to share my loot with you!

First stop Tuscon, AZ. I have friends here who tell me it's great, nice art scene, good food, neat scenery, and giant ass cacti (I'm excited for this!)

So come travel with me and let me take you on an adventure!

FAQ

  • The money I raise will be used for supplies to make postcards while I'm on the road. It will also be used to make the travel guide book created by your ideas after the trip is done.

  • No way! I hope to travel and search as much of the surrounding area as I can. Tucson is just a "base camp" of sorts to search the area for cool things to do.

  • I'll be there for at least a week. The more demand I get to search things the longer I can stay to explore.
